It had been a while since she'd been to Saboro now. Months in fact, long enough for the betrothal kids to have been born. Now they were old enough to start waddling around getting into mischief. They were adorable. She loved there fat, chubby little bodies and their innocent eyes and crooked little smiles. UGH. KIDS. Kalypso loved kids. And it had come to her attention that perhaps it would be nice to take the kids over to see their parents in Saboro soon.

And so she founds herself trotting towards the Devils Doom. The remains of an old broken ship that had washed ashore and now served as the quarters for the Captains Deck. Kalypso nodded at the Gunners on duty as she stepped aboard the ship, the ancient wood groaning and creaking beneath her paws."Captain?." She called out, hoping he was home.

The Wayfinder stood in her favorite spot in the entire territory of Tortuga, on its sandy shores with the waves lapping at her paws. Deep blue eyes were staring out across the ocean to the line where it met the sky on the horizon. She always wondered what lay on the otherside of that line out there. Unfortuneately for her, it would always remain a mystery. Perhaps it's better that way, Kalypso thought, life needs a litle mystery.

She turned her mind to more important questions, like when the Captain and her beloved Kaikona would return from the War.Surely it would be any day now. Each night she spent away from Kai was harder than the last and each day her lovesickness grew worse. She missed him so much. Kalypso worried about him constantly, he was her last thought before she went to sleep and her first thought in the morning. She really hoped he was okay and that he hadn't gotten hurt out there. Kalypso bit her lip as he anxiety climbed. Usually the waves calmed her soul and set her mind at ease but not even the oceans song could sooth her at the moment.

Unable to contain her restless energy anymore she decided she would head for the Watchman's point. She was on the western side of the cove anyways, the southern Watchman's point wasn't too far from where she was. With a small splash she jumped from the shallow water onto the dry sandy beach and trudged her way through the dunes and into the jungle.

She really did love everything about Tortuga. Its birds were bright and beautiful, flying through the air in a rainbow of colours. The flowers were huge and exotic, artistic creations whose scent was sweet and intoxicating to the senses. But Kalypso also loved exploring the land outside of her home, seeing the differen environments and cultures across the Straits was fascinating and wonderful. And as long as she had the Stars to guide her home she could go wherever she wanted and make friends. She had the perfect job.

Her happy thoughts came to an end when she saw a pale figure up ahead. He had black and red markings and she certainly didn't remember anyone in the pack who looked like that. A new person! How wonderful! Tail wagging excitedly behind her she heads towards the strange with a soft bark to get his attention. "Hey! I'm Kally.."It isn't until she draws closer that she sees how injured he is, old wounds slowly healing from a fight. Her brow creases in concern, "Oh, ouch that looks rough. What happened?." He smelt weird. Like ash and smoke, like blood and fire. Definitely not from Tortuga. Her blue eyes grew sharp with interest. Who was this guy?

  the secrets she keeps

She couldn’t remember what happened.

The dog slowly opened her eyes, the sky blurry and her thoughts a swirling mess. Dixie tried to move, but couldn’t feel her body. Everything hurt, and yet she felt as if she wasn’t there. The noises sounded far away, but from what she could tell, it was the ocean. Her mind was in and out; she wasn’t sure what time of day it was. She wasn’t sure what day it was. What had she last been doing? Every time she tried to concentrate, she felt herself drift out. Was it mere minutes that she laid there, unmoving, or had it been hours? She couldn’t tell. Her body was painfully numb, and she wasn’t sure if she could get up.

Had she fallen asleep? What seemed to wake her was the light around her. The sun had warmed most of her fur, but there was still the coldness that seemed to sweep around her. For a while she didn’t even try to move, just laying there, listening to the crashing of the waves. Then she could feel her paws, and started to stretch her toes. If anyone was close, she couldn’t tell. As she tried to get to her front paws, she unknowingly let out a sharp, painful howl. The motion made her stomach twist, before she felt bitter water and bile falling from her mouth. Everything was salty, and she felt disgusting. She tried to force out what she could, then collapsed back onto the ground. The waves splashed against her back, as she breathed heavily.

There was a throbbing from the side of her head, but it only made her thought blurry. She tried to whine out a cry for help, but only a sad, sickening whimper came out. She needed help. She didn’t know what had happened, but she knew she needed help.

what happened to dixie??? who knows????
but she obviously was in the water and washed up, and she had a wound on her head

say not always what you know [Rome Recruitment!]
Posted by: Augustus - October 01, 2017, 10:36:04 AM - Replies (5)

It was a brilliant, quiet day in the neutrals. Augustus lay in the dappled sunlight between the trees, watching the landscape in front of him as the clouds rolled on. It was too quiet here, too peaceful. Augustus resented it. There were rumors of strong packs, whispers of demons with red tattoos and armies in dense, dying forests, but where was the fear? Everyone in the unclaimed land ran around without any caution, without worries or apprehension. As if peace was something within this tortured realm's grasp.

Augustus stretched his body out, claws digging deep into the soil as his back arched and popped. He stood, pastel eyes looking out over the land. If he wanted to build his empire, he would need to start with an army. Able bodies, compliance, structure. Minds to manipulate into doing his bidding. Loyalty.

Those things would come with time, but for now, a recruitment was in order.

He moved with a purpose towards a small field he'd passed early that smelled strongly of bovine. He stood out against the trees, an orange and red blur among the greenery, but he stuck to the shadows and went mostly unnoticed by the forest's inhabitants. The peace had clearly lulled these animals into a false sense of security; no one should feel comfortable with a brute like him lumbering through the shadows.

Without pause or bravado, the man leaped from the bushes and latched his full weight onto the throat of a bull cow, previously grazing and unaware of his presence. It let out a terrible shriek, immediately bucking and kicking and trying to fight him off. His grip on it's throat tightened and tightened until eventually it fell with a crash to the forest floor, suffocated. A sharp hoof had sliced his shoulder, so Augustus licked at the wound as he stood triumphantly atop his kill.

Blood dripped from both his shoulder and his lips, and poised atop his prize, he held all the regality of the king he intended to be. "Come here," He purred at whoever had amassed. "Are you hungry? Why don't you share a meal with me." No less charming than he'd always been, voice thick with honey and danger.

"There's plenty here for all of us."

Oh, the tigress had been watching the other feline for some time. She assumed that she would have to chase them off the bull she had been eyeing but, as fate would have it, they were giving handouts. "Well, my leonine friend," she purred as she slunk out of the shadows of the underbrush, "If you're offering, then I am more than interested in a free meal." Approaching the upper back of the dead bovine, she used her claws to carve into the flesh and portion out the rib roast. Sweetly, she spoke to the lioness, or possibly lion for their voice was a bit deep, "If you're giving away food, there must be a catch. What are you selling, hon?"

"Well, my leonine friend,"

Augustus watched the woman slink from the shadows with bright, appraising eyes. Tigers had always been an interest of his--mysterious loners, shadows with bright eyes and sharp tongues. You never saw them coming, even with their bright orange and black pelts. They were a bit alike in that regard; typically by the time you saw Augustus, it was already too late.

Like for the bull, for example.

"If you're offering, then I am more than interested in a free meal."

He hummed quietly and dipped his head in a nod as he sat back on his haunches and regarded her, one paw still placed on his prize. He had no appetite to speak of, not at the moment; but this was his kill, and even if he didn't plan on eating it, he didn't want them to forget it, either. A subtle display of dominance, but one he was sure would not go unnoticed. His eyes traveled the length of the tigress before him as she carved her pound of flesh, taking in her brilliant gold markings and her dark, dark pelt. She was a lovely thing, and Augustus had no doubt that she knew it.

"If you're giving away food, there must be a catch. What are you selling, hon?"

A slow smile curled his lips. "No catch," He said. "And I am no salesman." He didn't need to sell himself--he would give the facts, and they could choose whether or not to follow him. For now. "I require no payment. Only consideration."

He rolled his shoulders and settled more fully. "I plan to craft a kingdom in these lands, powerful; like the ones they whisper about at night to misbehaving children. I am offering the chance to be apart of it's formation," Before they rose to power. Before they would be able to force others to join them. Augustus still could, even now, he thought; but slaves would be troublesome to keep without drivers. He didn't have time for such things--recruitment and choice would have to do, for now.

"Are you interested, tigress?"

Her onyx eyes flicked to his paw placed so casually, yet so possessively on the carcass. She lifted her own, bloodied paw, bronze toned claws flashing. "I'm listening," she lifted the paw to her muzzle, licking it once, twice, eyes locked with the other feline. A group that would make the weak tremble, and to be part of their beginnings. Chances like this didn't come every day. Oh, she could carve out her spot. "Lead the way dear, I'm going to Rome."

  the beginning [Rainer + Augustus]
Posted by: Augustus - September 30, 2017, 11:39:17 PM - Replies (7)

He'd spent so much time in the neutrals, lately. Learning, hunting, exploring. There was so much land here. So much life.

For so long, all he had known was death and sand. It was a part of him still, and it always would be--blood, sand, pain. Heartbreak.

No one would love him now that he was a monster. That was fine by him; monsters didn't need love. Ares and Lyssa had seen his grief and blessed him with a rage that burned, steadily larger, in the core of who he was. No one would ever take what was his again. He was more, now. Not whole--he would never be whole--but a purpose sat heavily upon his shoulders and guided him.

Augustus had little time for affairs of the heart. Many of the inhabitants were pairing up, mating off, birthing litters of anklebiters for a new generation to succeed. He watched them from afar, the happy little families, all so... boring. So complacent.

Lilac sky eyes turned and met those of a wolf, black and white and brilliant red, in the middle distance. He recognized the look of him--that of a fighter, someone who'd fought tooth and claw for everything he had. His eyes narrowed even as respect grew, quietly, inside him.

This wolf was not like the others, either. He was shaped differently--a subspecies, perhaps.

Augustus stood from his comfortable spot in the sun at the top of a rolling grassy hill, and made his way towards the male, his posture not altogether friendly, but not outwardly hostile.

"Χαλάζι," He murmured, internally sighing as the familiar word rolled off his tongue. That kingdom was gone, he reminded himself; he'd been the one to burn it to the ground. "Hello," He said instead, stopping short of the wolf. You have the air of a gladiator." Perhaps even a King-- "I'm Augustus. Where do you hail from?"

Not everyone would be as willing to tell such things as Augustus was--he would proudly boast the destruction of his previous pride, if it could be called that--and he wouldn't be offended if the man didn't want to speak of it. Loose lips sink ships, as they say.

  heroes always get remembered [aranea]
Posted by: Aranea - September 30, 2017, 04:33:37 PM - Replies (9)

Quote:Augustus did not often laze his days away. He spent them planning, training, getting a lay of the land and the canines and felines that inhabited it, gathering information. They had many neighbors, now. He had many things to think over; at the forefront of his mind, how he could gather more soldiers to drive his cause. How could he entice them to him?

His day was spent much the same way, planning and murmuring to himself, drawing lines in the sand just to slam a paw on them and erase them all over again. It was a constant, unending battle to find the perfect combination of components that would yield the best results. Now, with the stars shining bright above him, the new moon casting nothing but shadow on the land, the Emperor relaxed.

Quietly he groomed himself, mind gradually settling as a sense of calm washed over him. His sky blue-lilac eyes seemed to glow in the low lighting, his swirling whirlwind of a pelt doing little to hide his position. He wasn't particularly worried, despite being outside of Rome's walls; he was more than capable of taking care of himself, and the fact that from afar he was often mistaken for a female--something that, inexplicably, caused others to think him less a threat than he was--was only to his advantage.

Movement drew his gaze, and he let his paw drop back down to the grassy earth, tongue sneaking out to lick his lips as he saw a small form flit about. "I've seen you," He purred, amusement clear on his features. "Come out, little sparrow, I will not hurt you." It went to show what sort of state the land was in, that they would leave their children unattended.

He would remedy that with time. "What are you doing so far from home?"

  Sun King [SS]

Summer had arrived as the days grew longer and the heat became unbearable at times. As the sun dipped down below the fringe teeth, cicadas sang their long-winded songs and the fireflies lit the meadows with green light. Maia enjoyed the hottest time of the year, even if she wanted to do nothing but sleep through the heat, but the warm nights and fireflies captured her.

Today was like any other, except the sun rose early over the molten sea and would not set until very late. The girl would stretch, say her good mornings to the family under the tree before setting out on her adventures, either with or without her Aldebaran. Her feet carried her to the edges of the cliff side, salty waters licking against the edges below, the roar of crashing waves echoing in her ears. Blue eyes glanced out toward the clear horizon, squinting at the glinting bell just beyond the bridge that either just went under or was about to emerge.

Soon, she reminded herself. Soon she would be strong enough to SWIM across.

A chime glided across the black sand, her fixation broken by the calming sound. Confusion set in as she did not see anyone below, strolling along the dark shore, but she shook her head and took off for the pools. The day was early enough that the cool breeze of the ocean was soothing, enough to allow her to run without over heating. Her body was growing, as was her stride and her mind, her determination. Maia would soon grow over her siblings and she would be closer to the stars.

Closer to the Kings in the sky.

Maia finally paused at the fairy pools, deciding to practice on her own this morning. After catching her breath, she would jump in without hesitation. Though her vision was blurred, she would open her eyes to the watery world, legs pumping to send her down to the bottom where she would touch before pushing off the slimy floor to send her back to the top. Once she surfaced, she gasped, not used to holding her breath for long periods of time. That's what she needed to work on. The girl would swim a few laps before hanging around the edge of the pool, sighing. She was still so weak.

"How is this ever going to work... ugh."

  Staring into the Abyss (Moccasin)
Posted by: valefor - September 29, 2017, 09:22:45 PM - No Replies

Day and night no longer had any meaning to Valefor. Sunlight never reached this place and at times the young male thought he must have died and gone to hell for some unknown atrocity toward his gods. And yet his body didn't agree with his mind. His muscles ached though he wasn't under any physical stress. His mouth was always dry and his stomache always twisted in hunger. Feral thoughts flooded his brain when food or clean water happened to be available, tearing him away from civility to become the beast he was at heart. The beast Oukoku-Kai had dreamed them to be.

Valefor stared at the wall of the caves thise creatures called the Abyss, his eyes having adjusted to the perpetual darkness. He rolled onto his belly, tortured by the sound of trickling water, his mouth dry as bone as his body craved the cool liquid. But his resolve (and his nose) hadn't broken down far enough yet to yearn for that kind of death. The water smelled acrid. Perhaps that was another way the heathens sought to break him. But he would not be broken. Black tipped ears pulled back against his neck, raccoon stripped tail lashing behind him in sheer determination. He was born into a world of blood and gods and he would be damned if he let some heathens change that.

And yet... Valefor's mind wandered again, his tongue lapping at his nose in a vain attempt to wet it as he remembered all that time he had searched for Ezekiel. The memory of his guilt was still strong, but it also allowed seeds of doubt to bury deep in his body. Ezekiel had lived. He'd returned home in reletively good shape. Had he broken under the will of the heathens? If Valefor had indeed lived and wasn't in some hellish underworld, he wondered if he would ever get out and speak to Ezekiel again.

With a heavy sigh Valefor rested his head on his paws, his entire body feeling too heavy for him, and let his mind wander further. Back to Oukoku-Kai. Back to his mother. Astryd. The once great and feared leader of the Hawks, retired before Valefor had set out for the war. What would they tell her? That he was captured? That he died? Were they looking for him as they had Ezekiel? Who knew? Valefor didn't. It was likely that he never would.

A Little Trouble Never Hurt Anyone... (Atton)
Posted by: Makoshark - September 28, 2017, 10:15:53 PM - No Replies

The last rays of the setting sun woke the young prince from a fitful slumber. A restless feeling deep in his gut told him he needed a job. A task to do daily to keep from going crazy or doing something reckless to pass the time. But what to do? Baal had taken him in but he'd rarely seen her these days since she had mated with some dark stranger from Saboro. Mako had kept his distance, not being stupid enough to deal with his aunt while things were going down. Besides, it wasn't like her rank was anything he had to necessarily train for, even if he wanted it. Which he did. Eventually. For the time being he sought a lower, easier form of work to preoccupy himself.... but nothing had struck his interest quite yet.

So the boy wandered aimlessly by day, observing packmates to spark his interests or swimming in the ocean or sleeping the afternoon away, as he had been doing when the warm golden rays woke him. The moon would be full tonight, lending a far different feel to the beaches of Tortuga. Mako stretched and yawned, feeling the deep breath push out his lungs in a pleasing way before stepping out of his little hut to the outside world.

The moon was yet to be seen but somehow he could feel it rising in his bones and the pirate prince wanted nothing more than to stir up a little trouble. But who to go to for such shenanigans? He thought for a time before a smile broadened on his face, causing his flared ears to push together in a devilish expression. Atton. Surely his beloved 'Tahno' would be up for some fun. His tail wagged behind him as he trotted off to seek out his brother, calling his own personal baby talk nickname into the breeze. "Tahno! You around?" He was really too old for those silly, childish nicknames, but that didn't stop him from using them and heaven forbid anone else used the cutesy nicknames but him.
