the secrets she keeps - Dixie - October 01, 2017 She couldn’t remember what happened. The dog slowly opened her eyes, the sky blurry and her thoughts a swirling mess. Dixie tried to move, but couldn’t feel her body. Everything hurt, and yet she felt as if she wasn’t there. The noises sounded far away, but from what she could tell, it was the ocean. Her mind was in and out; she wasn’t sure what time of day it was. She wasn’t sure what day it was. What had she last been doing? Every time she tried to concentrate, she felt herself drift out. Was it mere minutes that she laid there, unmoving, or had it been hours? She couldn’t tell. Her body was painfully numb, and she wasn’t sure if she could get up. Had she fallen asleep? What seemed to wake her was the light around her. The sun had warmed most of her fur, but there was still the coldness that seemed to sweep around her. For a while she didn’t even try to move, just laying there, listening to the crashing of the waves. Then she could feel her paws, and started to stretch her toes. If anyone was close, she couldn’t tell. As she tried to get to her front paws, she unknowingly let out a sharp, painful howl. The motion made her stomach twist, before she felt bitter water and bile falling from her mouth. Everything was salty, and she felt disgusting. She tried to force out what she could, then collapsed back onto the ground. The waves splashed against her back, as she breathed heavily. There was a throbbing from the side of her head, but it only made her thought blurry. She tried to whine out a cry for help, but only a sad, sickening whimper came out. She needed help. She didn’t know what had happened, but she knew she needed help. what happened to dixie??? who knows???? but she obviously was in the water and washed up, and she had a wound on her head RE: the secrets she keeps - Kalypso - October 01, 2017
Kalypso stared down at the star fish, its pale orange flesh glistened beneath the foam of the waves that rolled over it. She tilted her head this way and that as she admired it. It was beautiful. She wondered if she could find a crafter talented enough to work it into an accessory for her. Aysu perhaps? Trident was still settling in and she didn't want to bother the hellion just yet. Kalypso hummed softly to herself, a melodious tune without words. The sound of a yelp of pain jerked her head up straight in surprise and she stopped humming. That sounded like someone was hurt.
Starfish momentarily forgotten she headed towards the direction the cry had come from, sea foam spraying up around her ankles as she rushed. She didn't see anything for a few meters and she was beginning to think she'd imagined the sound when she heard the very faint whimpering. She froze, small ears rotating as she strained to see where the sound was coming from. There! She'd almost mistake the Keeper for a pile of debris, covered as she was in seaweed. With a gasp Kalypso hurried forward and jerked all the seaweeds from the wolfdogs golden body and grabbed her by the scruff. With a heave Kalypso pulled her from the edge of the waves onto the soft sandy beach and nosed the older womans body for signs of breaks or other injuries. She was in terrible condition and she had a nasty gash on her skull but she was definitely alive. She'd known Dixie as comforting, support figure all her life as one of the Keepers who had helped raise her as a puppy. The sight of the woman beaten down and hurt made her heart ache and she had to banish the tears from her eyes as she licked Dixie's face. "I gotcha, shh, it's okay.." What on earth had happened to her? She had so many questions but they could all wait. She needed to get this brine washed off of the Keeper and make sure her wounds were cleaned properly so they didn't get infected. "This might hurt and I'm sorry but I gotta do it.." With a grunt she shoved herself beneath Dixie and lifted her over her back and slowly, carefully made her way towards the nearest stream. She made sure not to jostle or drop the golden wolfdog on the way there, heart pounding the entire time. Finally they made it to the stream and she lowered Dixie into the water, using her paws to splash fresh water onto her salty coat and then rubbed her pelt with another paw to wash as much of the brine off as she could.
