Travelling, it seemed like something she had been doing a lot of lately, even if her body wasn't the biggest fan of it (and boy did it let her know), but she had her little medicines to help with that, and they managed to ease some of the strain, but they had rested a lot. A lot more than she would have liked, but that's just how this would go.

The ginger woman would make it a point not to complain nearly as much, that would've made the trip all the more miserable than it already was, choosing instead to make small comments here and there. Searching the wilds for potential packs was foolish given they hadn't a clue where to start. At this point they were grasping at straws and winter's cold would not be kind to them, as it nipped at their heels.

But a days journey out of Alteron accompanied by three jacks, she hand picked herself, would be surprisingly fruitful. For the umpteenth time they'd come to a stopping point for her to rest, keen eyes glancing at the mountain peaks in the far distance, each capped with white snow against a clear blue morning sky. There stretched pine trees as far as the eye could see, and as the wind picked up suddenly, Telana's nostrils flared. "Do you smell that?" She said plainly, eyes shifting to the others. "A pack, let's move, it seems pretty close."

As they continued on the treeline seemed to get denser, she'd often wondered if Alteron was the worst pack geographically speaking, but no, this one had to take the cake. Who'd make a pack in the cusp of the north? Telana frowned in annoyance, the stench of a border reeked. Ah, so here we are? "You'll be proving yourself as competent jacks, I will only interfere if you fumble. Remember, only what we want them to see." Amber gaze fell on each of them and then she'd tilt her head back and howl out a summons, moving her way to sit behind the three jacks.

(Ooc: this was made to help Neo and I catch his little “mouse”. I need more people to join in, on our journey full of MISCHIEF!!! Like scaring pups and snapping at elders, then this is the right thread for you. Lets starts out with a little avalanche, shall we?)

Though recently Ery had stood perched at the edge of these sharp cliffs, he'd never ventured down the dangerous inclines.. until now, of course. He'd been surprised to find at the southern edge of the Beyond that it was possible to actually make his way down into the valley. Was it safe? No, not really, but what in life was ever rewarding that was super safe? Not much, as far as he was concerned. Interested, Ery started his descent down the icy cliffside - he was pleased to find a way down and wondered how tall the larger-than-life cliffs would look once he reached the bottom. Surely it would be a sight to behold..

The climb was a precarious one. Winter had already began to touch the north, and a decent amount of snow coated the sides of the Beyond rocks that Erysicthon was using to scale the cliffside were coated in a thin layer of ice, making him lose his grip more than once, though the male was focused on his descent. It was only when he approached the bottom that an eerie sound behind him caught his attention. For a moment he thought it might be the wind, roaring across the valley and creating a low rumble, but as he turned to stare up at the way he'd came he realized something was very, very wrong. The sound was like nothing he'd ever heard before, a low rumble that came from the earth itself, and that was when he saw it.

Sharp drifts of snow had begun to come barreling down the cliff, bringing a cascade effect down with it. It only took a few seconds before it intensified, and Ery’s eyes widened as he looked on in horror as the entire contents of the cliffside came rushing toward him. Shit. He'd had enough experience with snow that he knew it wasn't anything like water - it was powerful, and fast, and if he tried to outrun the avalanche he knew he might get pushed further down the cliffside in the process. Thinking fast, Ery came up with a plan. He went rushing toward a nearby boulder, and with that in mind he crouched behind it and hunkered toward the ground. Sure, he might get buried in snow and have to dig himself out, but it was better than being pushed around at will! That was his plan, at least...

|⚜| "the state" (neutrals) |⚜|
the wayfinder; "high lord" (nomad)

The sun would set into a cool milky moonlight and the boy on the precipice of being a man would watch it as it slowly went. As many times as it crept away it always returned, it was faithful and reliable. Temorask sighed softly at it, thinking about a great many things to be on the mind of a beast his age. Most of his people had scattered into the wind, even those loyal to his bloodline had not been loyal to him. Had it been his fault? His training had not been complete, but his advisors assured him that he was fitting into his role just peachy. Could it be they were lying for his benefit? Temo knew it was part of their job to do to the pack, would he be able to discern if they did it to him? The Hounddut wrinkled his nose, he’d like to think that would be able to tell such indiscretions. Or perhaps he hoped, prayed if prayer was a think his people did. A huff of air would slightly puff his floppy lips, looking like a bounce house mid-inflate in a moment before it slipped through the edges of his mouth to the world around. I wonder how many tennis balls he could fit in his mouth? The boy-king smacked his lips, staring at the sky as it turned into a cold darkness, speckled with only faint sparkles of stars past wispy clouds.

Behind him was the muttering of advisors, likely wondering what sorts of things their leader was pondering in the distance. He was draped in moonlight, fading his tans and creams into almost an ethereal whiteness. Chartreuse eyes would turn back to his council then, deep in thought.
"I think I’m going to take a short trip. Not far, not long, but I’d like to see what this so called ocean looks like. If I’m able to do so. No need to bring the rest just for a sightseeing outing. I’ll travel straight there and straight back." Temorask’s advisors would shift uneasy, obviously uncertain that he should step away from his people. A couple muttered about safety, one muttered about world-knowledge, another tried to mention personal freedom but was side-eyed into silence. The Hounddut would simply watch his councilmen and women chatter for a moment before finally sighing in agreement that they really couldn’t tell their High Lord no. It was typically not in his nature to pull his position over them to get things he wanted—Temo respected his advisors—but he desperately needed to step away.

Seeing the ocean was as good as any excuse to do so. Birds had sang songs and occasional loners had told him and the people about this “ocean”. It was far enough away to give him some time to himself without prying eyes and fearful people, but not so far as to keep him removed from them for long. So he calmed his council and told them to tell the remainders he was scouting ahead and they could rest for a couple of days. The boy-king was certain his people would appreciate that anyway, they had traveled long and under great stress. As he moved away into the night he worried that his people would never be a pack again, he worried they’d scatter to the edges of the Earth… It would be his fault. Green eyes squeezed shut tightly, trying to ignore the gnawing fears. There was an odd smell in the air—saltwater—and it seemed to match this “ocean”, so he imagined he was in some way, still moving in the right direction. The bulky sight would travel through the entire night, arriving to a small channel as the sun was slipping back into its place. On the other side were the oddest little trees he’d ever seen in his life. Gnarled roots and twisting and combining, tall and shaky. The crashing of waves could be heard all around, the ocean was to the side but what odd trees!

He allowed himself a slight detour, he could do these things as he pleased, especially by himself. It was unsettlingly freeing; it was almost unfortunate he had such a strong sense of duty to his people. Temorask approached the channel, looking down at the water and the trees across the way. As a man who could not swim, he was tentative for a moment, but upon realizing it was shallow enough he could walk through he moved across with comfort. The Hounddut male pulled himself up on the shore about as delicately as a hammer hitting an eggshell and the trees snapped around him. What he didn’t have in height he had threefold in weight, bulky and heavy. Temo was larger Hounddut too, for each foot in height he had, he also had nearly one-hundred pounds in weight. The three foot tall man was just shy of three-hundred pounds; he really was just big boned though!  The forest would be much easier to traverse on the way out, he decided, looking back at the trail of carnage he had left in his accidental “bull in a china shop” hiking.

The High Lord enthusiastically studied the mangrove trees for some time, occasionally stepping in puddles or finding himself following a strange noise—calls of birds and squeal of monkeys likely—but he stopped flat upon coming to the cliff side. Ah the familiarity, he sighed with nostalgia. These were not scalable like the cliffs in The Stronghold (not even for a Hounddut) but they still reminded him of home. The male would sit and smile at them as the sun trickled overhead before a sound would catch his attention. There was another around, he could hear them and before they even showed themselves fully the boy would introduce himself in true enthusiastic Hounddut fashion.
”Salutations! I am Temorask, son of the late High Lord Rawn and his wife, late High Lady Delia, direct descendant of the Great Savior Brutus; The Boy King and Wayfinder, new High Lord of The State, Guardian of his People! I apologize if I have transgressed too close to your dwelling! I was simply seeking this thing called an “ocean” and caught sight of these odd trees and decided to inspect them. We had cliffs like this in my people’s homeland. Lovely!”

OOC| basically he’s coming to visit. Obviously there is no real Hounddut pack but it's a major part of his backstory and it’s easy enough to NPC.

Kazmiere’s endless journey to end his boredom seemed to be failing him lately. Things had grown very quiet once the snow fell. The white world around him had slipped into a deep slumber that he was not invited to join. He probably didn’t want the invite anyway, feeling far too restless to hibernate through the winter months like a bear might.

He had to admit, though, that it would be pretty cool to completely avoid winter.

Food was becoming scarce as the temperatures dropped. The trees were bare, no longer holding fruits or leaves, meaning the easier prey was harder to find. With very little food to eat, they were all hiding, conserving their energy and doing their best to not be hunted. That was great for them, but unfortunately that meant Kaz was left with a hungry belly. Honestly, he kind of loathed hunting – but it was a necessity. The lazy male had two options: starve to death, or get off his ass and do something about his growling stomach.

The tired boy rose to his paws, stretching his forelegs out long as he yawned deeply. He’d really done nothing the last couple of days, lazing about in an abandoned den he came across, keeping out of the cold and spending his time daydreaming. He’d had enough of that for now, however, and needed to get himself out of the den for a little bit. Time to do something with himself.

Stepping out into the crisp winter morning air, Kaz battled a shiver that wrapped tightly around his spine. God, he hated winter. All it meant was being hungry, cold, and lonely. None of those three things were overly enjoyable, and he had a few more months of this to endure yet.

Kaz started his trek for food, nose to the ground, trotting lightly through the fresh, fluffy snow. He hoped this wouldn’t take long. He was hungry, and also he didn’t have a lot for energy at the moment.

He scoured the forest for quite some time before coming across the scent of a rabbit, quietly mouthing the words ‘thank you’ in celebration as he followed the trail. His meal was nearby, he just had to find out where. Walking on silent feet, he slinked between the trees, sniffing the bottom of tree trunks and under bushes. Finally, he caught something out of the corner of his eye – a dark hare with vibrant undertones.

‘Shitty camouflage,’ he thought, smirking lightly. He crouched low, sneaking closer while staying as silent as possible, and finally pounced forward, paws extended and jaws parted.

Somebunny was about to have a shitty start to their day.

In the stillness of early morning, a hazy winter sky shone white and bright, otherworldly in it's glow. The fall of snow had already begun as quiet snow flakes dotted the world outside the den. As the world slept, the Apostle would stir to meet the dawn. Tired eyes flickered open, shifting slightly to the child that rest at her side and the warm body that braced her back. Ears twitched to the softest sounds of slumber, blue gaze drifted onto the golden form of their newest addition.

Templar had suggested that finding a group was necessary, and they were lucky to have found another lost soul, much like themselves. Truth that the Lord had not abandoned them.

She shuffled, pulling herself up and pulling a cloak over the slumber child's form, Filianore shot a glance to the moon-touched Knight, nuzzling affectionately into his plush neck fur, mumbling something to him as he dozed and then stepped out to greet the cold morning.

Snowflakes littered the sky as they fell to the ground, it was always so mesmerizing to her how quiet a forest could be when snow started to fall, it was peaceful, but lonely. The lady came to a rest by bush of holly, eyes inspecting the leaves and the bright red berries, when a twig snapped and the crunch of foot steps along frosted ground sounded in her ears. Ah? Fili turned slightly, wispy tail flicking behind her. "Cain?" She tried at first, though no answer came. "Templar?" One more and still she heard the foot falls. "Zaniah?" It's then she turned, tired eyes meeting the form of a stranger. "Who are you?" She nearly whispered.

The world around her was just one big blur, colors and shapes melding into one blob that was unreadable and her eyes kept forever searching forward as she pushed further and further. Her breathing ragged and her heartbeat fast and off beat with every shaky breath she drew in. Was he still behind her? She could have sworn that she still heard him snapping behind her, jaws catching air as she scrambled into a clumsy pace to save herself.

Though it had merely been her ears playing tricks on her now, but Padme was  much too afraid to look back.

When did it all go wrong? The tears streaming down her face, the humid air caressing a bleeding cheek and god did it sting. She had nearly forgotten all about the sprained paw with how much pain was being focused onto the puncture point.

Wide, pale eyes caught sight of her chance at freedom, the tunnel that spanned before her, and if it were even possible it felt as if her heart quickened and left her absolutely breathless in that moment. Freedom, safety, sanctuary. As she pushed herself forward at that same, wild, galloping speed the poor girl missed the jutting roots of a tree and caught her injured paw on her. Jaws flew open to shriek out in pain, scattering birds from the trees as her body collided with the ground, skidding across the dirt and rolling to a stop that left her shaking in pain.

Exhaustion finally gripped her body, but her legs were tired and wouldn't cooperate as pain from both the bite and her sprained paw finally hit her from both sides. A mere few feet from the tunnel system, freedom was a within her reach and yet miles away all at the same time. "No-nonon-noonono n-no. NO! I DON'T WANT TO DIE. I D-DON'T WANT.." She struggled breath quickening as she nearly began to hyperventilate struggling to attempt to crawl towards the tunnel and failing to drag her body even a centimeter. No, please. PLEASE!! The girl's body shook with sobs, the tears now streaming down her face and soaking the already damp earth. The pounding of her head, her shot nerves, and even the senseless chanting of her mind, it ebbed like waves. The world beyond is a kinder one, the world beyond is a kinder one, the world beyond it a kinder one.

Hikaru stood at the edge of a forest, trees marked with a familiar sign; one he had seen his father use on their walks around the border of their old home. The young male's paw laid on the deep claw marks, the sap of the tree still sticky. Pretty fresh. He didn't know if this was the same Stoneclaw that had been forced out by humans, but he had to try. Perhaps he might find his twin.

Of course he knew his father wouldn't be there. Nexys had grown old and the fall of the pride had crumbled what was left of his confidence. The old king, fallen from power, had decided it was best that he travel alone. Keep to himself as he had before he found Stoneclaw way back when... when the pride lived in endless plains. Hikaru barely remembered those days. The memories were little more than bright golden images, flashes of swaying grass far above his head.

It was the smell of the ocean that drew him now. That scent... yes, that was familiar. Their home after the fires had been close to rocky cliffs and as a cub Hikaru had been raised with the scent of the salty sea air. It was faint where he stood on the other side of the forest, dulled by odors of dead leaves, soft soil, and rotting trees. Nature. Earth.

Hikaru dropped his paw, remembering what his father had told him about waiting for acceptance. He just never thought he'd be on the other side of it. As he waited he wondered if there was anyone left that would remember him. Deep down, he hoped not.

The Kaeri pack is nomadic by nature; too much wanderlust runs through the veins of its people. Many of them have been uprooted from their homes or have not had one in so long, that to stay in a single place is a balm unable to scratch the itch under their skin. At this point in the story it is unclear what will trigger the group to seek out the unknown territory in the mountains, so for now only the locations listed in the Desert post are available.

His life lately seemed to be a deluge of unexpected events and surprises, none of which he appreciated. First Stoneclaw vanishes along with all his loved ones, then he nearly crosses the entire continent to find what's left of the pride was being led by his youngest inexperienced child?

But the kicker was this. Apparently his second in command was none other than Dahx. At first Shai had thought he'd gone too long without cleaning his ears. Dahx? What? How?? Once his most trusted friend, he'd gone and vanished from the face of the earth it had seemed... And now he was helping Roderik bring back Stoneclaw from its ashes? Incredible... Shai didn't know if he should feel grateful to his old friend for trying to guide his youngest son through this challenge, or if he should tell him he was being a fool for choosing to do so.

Roderik was too young to rule a pride, especially one in such a state of disarray. He had half a mind to take back the throne and try to fix everything... But the way Roderik had spoken, he had made it clear that he wouldn't hand over the title without a fight.

The fool... Didn't he realize the weight he'd taken upon his shoulders? Shai feared it would crush him. He had refused to listen to his father's wisdom... But perhaps he could get Dahx to talk to him. If the boy had taken him as his right paw, then he must have trusted him a great deal.

"Dahx?" He barely recognized him, but perhaps Dahx would think the same of him. So much time had passed. "It really is you. I didn't think I would ever see you again..."

It was good to see him. It truly was.

"Is it true what I've heard? You've decided to help my son rebuild the pride? I don't think he realizes what he's gotten himself into... He is too young for such a responsibility, but he won't listen to me."

Show me where your loyalty lies.

s v e y n

Traveling home lacked the excitement that his exploration sent him off with. While he was leaving Bacchus, a feeling of remorse quickly dispersed as he anticipated the cultures and diverse creatures he’d meet. He wasn’t disappointed, either, having met many new comrades during his journeys. As well as an adoration that he wasn’t sure how he’d ever get over. Which contributed to the feeling of the time dragging, being lost in his thoughts.

Thankfully, Reath was able to provide opportune distractions. His subtle inquiries about Bacchus and what to expect upon their arrival was gradually inviting the feeling of homesickness again. But something was unfamiliar about their trek back, something Sveyn could not quite recall. This road they travelled was not one that he had taken when leaving Bacchus.

It wasn’t until they began to pass over a bridge that Sveyn grew restlessly paranoid over what was yet to come. The smells were unsettling, the aura of the environment unwelcoming. Looking to Reath – small, frail, and completely incapable of defending himself – immediately led Sveyn to nose him fiercely in the side, pushing him towards the opposite end of the bridge. Whispering, demanding, “Run, RUN. Do not come back. No matter what you hear. Back to Gemini…” He wouldn't allow the boy to deny or oblige.

Blue eyes would watch steadily as the boy disappeared, alleviating his heaviest worry, but still his muscles tensed as he turned to face the oncoming snickers and sneers. Several footsteps were approaching, more prominent than they had been before. Unlike those that ushered him in Inaria and then in Gemini, Sveyn assumed these greetings would be less than welcoming.
