we'll have to beat the anime out of this one [Atton]
Posted by: Hebe - October 08, 2017, 12:05:03 PM - No Replies

The crow found himself losing track of time more often than not. With all the foreign deals, the war, and the return of his second mate, Hebe had to remind himself to juggle all of his responsibilities daily. And he was not irresponsible, far from it. From the death of his sister he had only worked harder, or tried to, until it all caught up to him again and again. It was exhausting, to have to be multiple things. He was the Crow, he was the Captain's mate, he practiced brewing on his free time and he checked in with those he cared about. On top of it all, he was a father, and it was something he found harder to fall into than he had first thought it would be.

Maybe it was because he had not physically seen a child since he and his sister were children themselves. And those memories slipped further away every year, and he often found himself unable to determine how tall any of his kids were at a given moment. Every time he poked his had too high or too low for their face, he felt a wave of guilt wash over him. Hebe would not blame them if they all loved the Captain better, at least he could give them a kiss without having to do child growth math in his head.

Atton and even more so Sinband gave him a lot of that trouble. They both grew fast, and grew big. Hebe found himself unable to pick them up or push them around or kiss their foreheads by tilting his head down. Multiple times he felt his nose press into his son's neck or chin instead. He wondered if they both found it funny, or pathetic. Maybe a little bit of both. Still, Hebe would not avoid any of his children, even when he felt utterly incompetent. When he felt particularly bothered by his inability to gauge his children's heights, he would blame Raikov for being massive.

And speak of the devil, the scent of his big fat son soon hit his senses, and his ears perked up. He stood from his spot on the beach he claimed with his ass cheeks and turned in his son's direction, a small smile on his face. "Atton." by now, he knew the boy's eyes were somewhere more up, and Hebe had to tilt his head upwards to look in the right direction. He wasn't sure how long it has been, but a wave of distinct guilt washed over him.

"I've... Not been around a lot. I'm sorry." he hoped the apology was read well, as he motioned Atton to come join him on the beach.

Alteron's weather wasn't necessarily unpredictable, but it was not dead set, and was prone to sharp turned throughout a season. It was to Leviathan's joy that one night turned into a rainy and cold one. While he could appreciate the sun, when trees did not cover his fur, his black tones quickly got hot, and his thick fur and large body felt hotter and heavier than ever. And while rain still soaked into his pelt, it felt cool on his skin, his eyes felt clearer even with drops hitting his nose rapidly.

And now, standing by the V of the river straight south from the Cathedral, Leviathan felt right at home. And with the late hour and wet weather, Leviathan assumed most of Alteron's denizens were probably probably avoiding the outside world until the sun rose. So that left him in a companionable silence with himself and the sound of rushing water bating against rocks and dirt and more water. It was nothing exciting, really, but Leviathan felt at peace, like he was alone in his own world, a transparent cube of darkness and the feeling and sound of water beating down on whatever came in its way. Water and the occasional sound of his own breathing.

Even when he heard went footsteps approaching, the bubble didn't burst. It felt like someone was coming into his world, into the domain he felt most comfortable in. Gray eyes quickly tracked the sound, the rain easily camouflaging whoever was approaching him until they moved closer to his line of sight. Whoever it was, no part of Leviathan's body would tense. Not unless they were going to mindless attack him.

"Running errands? It's late." his way of asking what someone might be doing out in this weather. Maybe they liked it as much as he did, maybe they had things to do, people to see. Maybe they actually hated the rain and took it as some sort of punishment, a person hell. Leviathan learned that while individuals are different, they still fell into categories, and he was happy to sort them until he found one that could not quite be jammed into any of them.

So curiously, Leviathan watched and listened for an answer.

"Did you need me for something?"

  Beach Day-cation [Aysu]

Gentle waves washed over blue paws as Aztek breathed a sigh of relief. His den was finally completed, homey and dry at last. He'd lined the floor with huge leaves, and added a layer of otter pelts as bedding to keep the water from soaking his pelt through the night. He was pleased, though anyone looking would be unable to tell by his rather emotionless expression. He deserved a break, so he'd brought himself over to the beach to contemplate his future. He needed to make an effort to get out more, now that the basics for comfortable living were in place. He needed a job. Friends? Maybe. Not one to seek out deep connections, not since... well that was the past.

He lifted his head to the sky, his good eye slipping closed as he listened to the sounds around him. He could hear the waves crashing more violently further along the island, the distant songs of the birds moving about the jungle. A wind whistled through cracks in the bluffs above. He moved forward, paws parting the tide as he moved further in. His nose was filled with the tangy scent of salt in the air. One paw gently brushed a shell, a beautiful specimen which swirled around itself, long and tapered at the end. It was white, but its surface shone with the whole rainbow as his head moved. He reached down as the tide receded and took it delicately in his teeth. Maybe a crafter would be interested in it. He moved out of the water and placed it gently upon a rock near the start of the jungle.

But for now, with no one in sight, he could release some of the tension his body so often contained. With a child-like whoop, he charged into the water, small waves breaking against his body as he submerged his head and tossed it back. A trail of water shaken from his body lifted above his head, catching the light just right to create a rainbow for just an instant.

T E S S A
Too busy making jokes about the other girl’s weight, the actual cause of her sister’s new, rotund body, the fact that she was about to be an aunt, was more of an afterthought than anything else. In her mind the children growing inside her sister's belly - leeching away valuable nourishment and shifting her vital organs around as they developed - were little different from hookworms. A terrible affliction she was glad to say she’d never experienced.

It was safe to say her opinion hadn’t changed much now that Hanna had fired them out of her clown cannon and they had developed motor skills and distinct personalities. And could you really blame her? She couldn't walk two steps without bumping into one of the little shits begging, pleading for her to stop and talk to her, at one point almost tripping over the brat as she bounded through her legs.

Eventually, the girl's persistence payed off and Tessa did indeed stop. Though probably not like she'd hoped. Abruptly wheeling around she dove upon the baby girl in a flurry of teeth, managing to land a solid bite across her back if Lotus wasn’t quick enough to evade her. Nothing her caregivers would notice and ask about when she came home, but definitely more than just a warning. Standing over the girl, Tessa curled her back in a snarl. “Learn to take a hint next time, little shit.” Seriously, she had been at this all morning, how much would it take for her to get that she wanted nothing to do with her or her siblings? Hanna had raised an annoying little shit. On that thought, the blonde wondered what the brat was doing tailing her in the first place. Hanna hadn't even been the one to tell her about her pregnancy, she only knew thanks to the local rumor mill. Absent, Dora the explorer parents™ were the norm in Oukoku, but it didn't seem like her sister to authorize surprise visits. “Shouldn't you be with your mother?”

L O T U S

The young girl was filled to the brim with a creative energy that she could not contain. She was constantly sticking flowers in her fur or behind her ear and she loved to try to make things with her clumsy baby paws. They never worked out right and always fell apart between her paws no matter how hard she tried to get it to work. So of course Lotus had sought out the guidance of her guardian, the White Seour.

Her answer was a venomous as she gave her the blondes description and sent her away. The little girl hoped she could find her.  Lotus had heard all about the tactician and felt a great deal of respect for the blonde already. But she didn't know she was her aunt. The child walked around the valley all morning looking for Tessa, calling out for her until finally she spotted the golden pelt in the distance and steadily made her way towards the figure.

"Tessa! Tessa!." She didn't seem to hear her but Lotus would not be so easily ignored. "Tessa! Tessa! TessaTessaTessaTessa." Lotus didn't expect Tessa to stop suddenly and spring an attack, saliva glistening in ropes between sharp canines as they flashed in the sunlight. The bite landed across her back brought a yelp of pain and surprise from her. Was this her first taste of Anytime-Anywhere? How great was that!

"Thank you, Miss Tessa." Lotus said with a wince and sat back up, shaking out her pelt as the bite began to ache and made herself comfortable as she ignored the pain. “Shouldn't you be with your mother?” Lotus's ears went back but otherwise she didn't react to Tessa's hurtful words. Not on the outside at least.

On the inside she was crying tears of anguish. Yes, yes, she should be with her mama but she couldn't because she was destined for other things. She was a gift for Mistress Gigantea and reminded herself what an honor it was everyday over and over least she forget. She had a purpose. At least for now. "I don't have a mother anymore." She said meekly, "Just Mistress Gigantea and her White Seour." She shuffled her paws infront of her, looking at her toes as she mumbled, "White Seour said I should come learn art from you."

sledDog - Puffin
alueWusky - Alue

-- sledDog [SD] began pestering alueWusky [AW] at 21:57 --
[09:59] -- alueWusky [AW] had searched the dog leader, Puffin, out, anxiously wanting to ask of a favor of sorts. He went close to where he had known the dog's den was, and stood outide, taking a moment to get himself together before calling out for the other, hopefully not bothering him too much. --
[09:59] AW: "Puffin, can we talk? It's not an issue, I swear."
[10:00] -- sledDog [SD] looks up, tail wagging as he spots Alue. Slipping out of his den, he takes a seat in the grass. --
[10:01] SD: "Of course! What can I do for you?"
[10:01] -- alueWusky [AW] feels anxious no matter what he wants or does, and even with his tail wagging - more of a coping way of copying the other - he felt himself as if he were able to sweat and get nervous like a human. --
[10:02] AW: "Lately, I've been collecting these, um, rocks? Crystals? And I kind of want to use them? I was wondering if maybe, just maybe, I could start training or working or experimenting as a crafter? I know Kestrel is double ranked as a crafter, so I figured if she can do it, maybe I can too."
[10:04] SD: "Sure! That sounds cool! I can teach you a little about leatherworking and woodworking too, if you think that would help? What do you think you want to do with these, uh, crystals?"
[10:04] -- alueWusky [AW] shifted his paws nervously. --
[10:06] AW: "I haven't really decided yet. Kestrel made some little pouches for us halos to carry herbs with them, so I was thinking of trying that first. Maybe use them to decorate stuff? I really like collars, and if I could find out a way to put a crystal on a collar, that'd look pretty cool, you know? And yeah, totally, that would help a lot I think."
[10:14] SD: "Oh yeah, those pouches were a good idea. I'm sure Kestrel would love to work with you on stuff like that! You can swing by anytime, and we'll show you what we know. I always love showing off my sleds. Maybe this winter I'll take one to Inaria..."
[10:14] -- sledDog [SD] gazes whistfully into the distance over Alue's shoulder. --
[10:15] AW: "Thanks, Puffin, that'd be great. And if you need help with, eh hem, pulling that sled, I'm more than willing to lend a paw."
[10:15] -- alueWusky [AW] wanted to be a sled dog for sure. --
[10:17] SD: "Good! I think you could be really good at it! It's always a good skill, knowing how to pull a sled! I, uh, guess I don't use it myself as much as I used to, but every so often you get an opportunity like that winter in Familiaris."
[10:17] AW: "We can work on a sled team, while crafting. I mean, we need to craft some of the stuff for the sled."
[10:21] SD: "True! I can teach you how to cure leather and make the cords that fasten the pieces of the sled together! This is going to be a lot of fun, I can tell. When do you think you want to start?"
[10:21] AW: "How about after I've gotten started more with crafting? It shouldn't be too long, I wanna start soon, but maybe a few days? I wanna get myself ready, you know?"
[10:22] SD: "That sounds good. Take your time; you know where to find me when you're ready."
[10:22] AW: "Thanks, Puffin. I'll see ya around."
[10:23] -- sledDog [SD] nods and wags his tail goodbye. --

  Heaven or Hell? (Addereon/Open)

Valefor sat quietly by the sea, golden eyes fixed on some far off point on the horizon, mind drifting to nowhere in particular. The sun was getting low in the sky and soon he would have to go back to the island where he was being held, but for now he lay quiet and still, listening to the ebb and flow of the waves. He was tired and yet sleep had abandoned him, just as his gods had. Left him to die in the land of these heathens that called themselves pirates. Or had they? The part of him that longed for home still had a strong opinion that he hadn't been abandoned. That he was being tested instead. But for what?

The white male closed his eyes and sighed. He could run himself in circles for all of eternity and he still wouldn't be any closer to a conclusion. The stress was eating him alive and he had woken nearly every night wondering if he had really died when the pirates set upon him and his gods had damned him to eternity in.... well, he wasn't sure. Hell? Somehow that sounded silly.

Golden eyes opened again to the ocean, a cool breeze ruffling the fur on his skinny form. Raccoon striped tail curled tight against his leg, ears lay back against his skull. The guard was nearby, eyes half closed, paws tucked under his chest. He seemed so certain that Valefor wouldn't run away that he had grown calmer; more relaxed. It was irritating. Valefor wasn't going to run. He was too weak. Food didn't want to stay down any more than water did. He simply couldn't injest enough to keep his energy up. It was getting to the point that he wasn't certain if he was sick with stress, or if he had contracted some sort of illness. Not that he was jumping to tell the heathens about it. They might just kill him off for being weak or for bringing sickness to their land. For now, he'd suffer in silence.

Depression had been taking a strong hold of the wolfdog, and it had caused countless sleepless nights, caused many break downs to where he ran away from interaction as to not be caught crying. But Alue had found something, a small distraction. He didn’t know too much about crafting, not having much interest at the moment - he didn’t think of himself as creative - but he found that he enjoyed collecting small items and organizing them. After Kestrel had given the halos crystals that were carved out to hold herbs, it gave him an idea to try and carve out little bowls to hold items he found. They were progressively getting better, even if he held the first, shitty, one as his favorite.

It was closer to night as he left his den. He had finished separating the stones he had found by color, and whatever scraps he had found that he thought might be useful. Now he was out, on the search for anything that might entertain him. Alue was wearing the crystal that Kestrel had given him, to collect herbs, and kept it empty so that he could grab anything he passed by. In the mountains that surrounded Nardir, he had found a small gave with small, colorful crystals that he could break off. He tried not to take too much, as he didn’t want to ruin the cave. But he’d gather some in the leather pouch he had found, and tried not to hurt his teeth.

The boy slipped into the darkness of the cave, knowing that he would have to push through the immediate fear of the darkness and closeness of the walls. If the crystals were already sprouting around him, he wasn’t aware. The further into the cave, the lighter it became, until he was in a small room of sorts that had crystals shining all about him. Somewhere there was an opening, he knew, but he hadn’t searched it out. What mattered is that there was enough light for him to tell what color he was looking at, and was able to find small pieces to break off. He went up to the opaque blue crystals, firmly biting down and testing if he could pull it down. He went on doing this for a minute or so, until he felt one give way easily. Dropping it into the pouch, he went onto biting and testing more crystals, slowly trying to fill his little pouch with a rainbow of crystals.

coming home [war return; ranking thread]
Posted by: Azuhel - October 06, 2017, 09:42:14 PM - Replies (5)

Deadline: October 24th
Participation: those who participated in the war but are rankles, also if you want to welcome them home you are more than welcomed to do that too
Who: Everyone, all ranks, all ages
When: Takes place after the war, so many misfits that came with them to Alteron can join too

If you were in the war and you had a thread, could you please post it with your posts? It’ll help me with the rewards!

She’d explained why they’d leave, why they had left, and why they were coming home.

She explained that they had done well, her volunteers, and she’d hoped they’d had fun in her own little way.

She told them they’d won with all the pride of a mother witnessing her child’s first achievements and that had been true. They came. They devoured. They left. Marking that isle with flesh and blood and making a name for themselves in the realm of the powers-that-were. She’d been serious when she’d started her games. Eager to prove her worth to the collective and in return they had performed admirably.

So, once they’d trekked home with the scent of smoke in their pelts and their bones torn from the unfortunate (among other little rewards they’d gained) she allowed bid them to come to her. She was not that selfish, to leave them without purpose in the new world order.

One tightly bound to her, of course.

Oy, She wuffed, to call them. She’d allowed them some much needed rest and to put away their hoards, but now, at the court of the log, stretched out as she fiddled with the pirate-won rosary around her neck, she thought it only proper to bless them.

Come’ere ‘n look at these scoundrels. she wheezed, right before she gave a snort that peeled off into good-natured laughter.

She was in a great mood, a bit of havoc would cause that every time.

All of my brave friends do line up, please, and tell me what you’ve done ‘n iffin you remember, who you’d dunit to.

So, she can put them to work appropriately.
