The days seemed so much shorter now, the mornings she woke up to still dark and foggy. The mist coated everything in a thin layer of ice, the roses she cared for so fondly were wilting and dying. It was their time for the coming months and she was saddened her coat wouldn't be as vibrant with the scent of them. Sarissa took advantage of the last few days before they all died to smother herself in their scent and today she felt lonely.

She crawled from her hovel and looked up at the thorns that protected her so dearly, sighing softly and continued out into the forest. Sarissa wasn't quite sure to do that day, it was one of those odd days she felt like she wanted to curl up in her den and sleep all day. It was cold and her eyes were sore.

It'd be so much better with another body, however. Her heart tugged to find Miasma. Or maybe her father was in his tower? Ah, but didn't they travel to a distant land already? How unfortunate for Sarissa.

She paused next to a rotten log, a pretty large one. One that could've been used throughout history, but Sarissa was not good at history nor did she quite care for the denizens of the past. Walking down to the point of where it was lowest, she would jump up and climb, paws gliding over vines and moss. There was a perfect spot where she could lay, a bed of soft green in which she rested upon. Wrists crossed over each over as she watched the forest and listened to the somber songs of the canopy.

If anyone knew any better, she looked just like a Queen.

Well the Gemini Queenie hadn't been lying - this place was stunning.

The sunsets seemed different, the skies being painted by some invisible creatures to be filled with colors he hadn't yet imagined could be in the sky. The air smelled of softness, of tenderness, of an innocence that almost seemed sad, but it filled him with such hope. The grass almost seemed softer, like when he would cuddle with mother and his siblings when they were younger. Even the bugs seemed more magical - their fireflies danced more slowly than the ones where he grew up.

And then there were the trees. Purple motherfucking trees. He had had to see them to believe that trees could be purple. Their trunks were white! It all made him wonder what sort of magic these Inarians had trapped in their territory, what sorts of gods or goddesses they worshiped to be blessed with such unearthly beauty. It was gentle and it was ethereal, but even all this elegance and beauty and warmth could not mellow the bitter fire that simmered in his chest.

He had gathered for a reason.

He'd left word with Shuck and Croc in the early morning when they were leaving Tethys's side - big sister insisting they spend the nights together, PFT, as though they were in some sort of danger when apart. But that had been an hour or two ago, giving them plenty of time to establish some weak alibi elsewhere and finding an excuse to make their way over here. This right here was super top secret mission stuff, the type of shit that's usually done under the cover of night. Except that's what they would expect! ... and also the fact that nighttime meant supervision.

So they met under the bright noon sun, though cloistered under the shade of some of these magical purple trees and their whispering leaves. The great cluster of canopies above gave a sense of seclusion and secrecy, as though the shadows cloaked their mischievous intentions. When Shuck and Croc would appear, he'd flash a bigass grin on his face, snaggleteeth poking out. "I've gathered you all here today--" was all he could manage before he sputtered out a graceless laugh. A split second and he'd forcibly compose himself, donning a stern, straight face until it relaxed and he'd try again. This time he meant it.

"Fuckwad is here," No need to explain who exactly that was, "And I'd bet my left nut he's gonna try fer Croc's kids again. I, fer one, ain't gonna put up with that shit. So," A flash over to Shuck, "Yer the master for all things... err... strategic..." Barbaric was more like it, but it didn't matter. They needed a game plan. "Whaddya think we should do?" Because doing nothing was not an option here. Lucky needed to be avenged.

And sometimes the best defense is a fierce, fiery, vengeful offense.

ooc: Shuck and Croc only please. Other Sharitas may message me if they'd like to join. c:

K y r a,

Oh don't you dare look back, Just keep your eyes on me
I said you're holding back, She said shut up and dance with me

actions - “speech” - thoughts

The pounding headache wasn't helping things. The tension in her jaws was making everything worse and she didn't know if her clenching was from the butterflies in her stomach, the state of the union, or because she couldn't find anything to fucking EAT around here. She was a lousy fisher and it seemed like it was the only thing she wanted to eat around here.

Kyra had been avoiding Akutan. With the Generals passing her heart ached every time she smelled the x-clan. The fact that Akutan had just... left, had not even tried to get her attention to go with him to see Byakko and Raka, barely acknowledge her when she showed up with her dad, and then... and then not even pursue her? Not even try to get her attention enough to see if they could console each other? Was he even concerned that she hadn't been eating lately? Moody? Off? Was he even AWARE that she had been yarking at every opportunity or looking queasy every now and then?

Her dad knew. She was sure of it. He had been pushing sweet leaves and this interesting root, that she actually liked, at her for days now. It was probably the one thing that was keeping her going until she finally caved and ate a godawful pheasant, not that it did much because she'd yark half of it up an hour later. Bleh.

She was hunting because she had nothing better to do and had to keep her mind off things. She was keeping a steady silent slinking pace along the forest floor, stalking a rustling just ahead of her.
Maybe Buckshot had got some of those fish traps up by now. She'll bring Sara and the kids a pheasant. Stars know she's good at catching those damn things, and the kids'll probably like the feathers. Maybe she can ask Buck to get his butt in gear for those traps. Stars know she can't rely on her "lover" to even notice her anymore.

Hah Gotcha! She thought as she made a clean feathery kill before it took flight. She started to make her way back to the dens. Bleh the smell was already turning her stomach. If she never had to eat one of these things again it would be too soon. She thought as the bird dangled from her jaws.

If she voiced any of these thoughts about Akutan to her father he'd just turn it around and tell her to buck up and take it up with the guy himself.
Fine.
It was about time he knew anyway, looks like these kids are set on sticking around, might as well make it official.

She came into view of The Castle and paused briefly. She actually liked the central activity. She could tell where everyone was, mostly, and she loved the gossip of the place. Being so close to everyone one made it easy to keep friends. She knew everyones dens, and could even see Mercury's den and then saw her Dad making the rounds. He was probably checking on the kiddos, again. Well, those aren't going to be the only kids running around anymore.

She made her way to Sara's den at the Castle and dropped off the gift for the pacifist who wouldn't hunt. If Sara was there Kyra would ask if she knew where Akutan was. If Akutan was there (or at least easily found) she would give him a look. Not the "come hither" look she normally kept for him, no. It was the "we need to speak" look with the hint of "boiling pot of water", before starting to approach him.

[OPEN] Looking In the Southern Seas, You Will Never Find Me

Speech: #99ccff

The ocean is full of secrets.

Sometimes, those secrets find themselves coming out in the most unexpected ways as they wash up on shore and on to the sandy beaches. It's those treasures that make anyone wandering along the shore line eager to continue their walk with the hopes of finding more.

It had been some days since the pride had arrived at what was now their home of Stoneclaw, and Ferdinand had spent most of it missing. When the King had stumbled upon a cave full of paw prints of ancestors long past, the lion found himself ready to explore and catalogue each and every last bit of the territory they now called home. It was definitely a task in the making as he spent his days learning each nook and cranny of their home lands, but he was doing it.

He had managed to find his way from the large cave to the Crevasse on the second day. It held high hopes of lost treasures and maybe even some long forgotten bodies of souls who fell in to bad luck when traversing the lands themselves. It was, however, decidedly best for him to take that exploration on a day when he could have a partner or two (though he was hesitant to ask anyone to go on this particular adventure with him with it being dangerous). By the next day, Ferdinand had traced back his footsteps to the endless prairie. It was, as the name suggested, endless, and as he looked out on to the horizon where the yak herds grazed and lived, he couldn't help but feel that there was much more than met the eye there. Again; this would be a topic for another day when he found the courage to ask a small group to go with him to perform what would basically be considered an archaeological dig. He wanted to know everything about them and their feeding grounds. He wanted to make sure that he had every last detail in place for when he would surely write his stories about their King Roderik and his legacy.

Today though, he found himself wandering the tide pools, his large body slumped over a rock and his front feet dangling in the water. His gaze was fixated on several crabs that were having a fight, and the only thoughts he could muster were along the lines of, 'I wonder if they have a family. I hope they don't hurt each other. I wonder what stories these little guys could tell me.'

He found himself taking a break as noon rolled on through; his body warming up on the rock as the sun beat down on it. There were many things Ferdinand was ready to do, but for now he hoped the tide pools would offer some insight to this ancient land while he caught a little breather for himself. And, if nothing else, it was a perfect day for a cat nap.

But I can see the sunshine's rays gleaming through the clear water
Telling me you gotta hop in for this chapter's ride
There will always be better days

He had idly heard of a party, but was happy when the red woman gave him one look over and said 'No stay here'. She never gave him any sort of reason why, but her gaze was keen and telling, he believed her all the same.

So when the group that had been chosen to go to Inaria actually did leave, the temperate forest felt a little more empty than usual. That wasn't to say that it WAS empty. There were still unfamiliar scents that littered the area like flashing neon signs, all screaming HEY FOLLOW ME! However, the pale jackal/wolf mix had a different idea for today's adventures.

Light paws carried quickly and quietly over the damp, mossy ground. A crow cawed above, and there was a far off bugle from an elk. The boy's large ears continuously turned on a swivel, pausing so that his burnt orange gaze could scan his surroundings from time to time. There was a chill in the usually warm, damp air. Some of the trees had already showed signs of autumn. Leaves already in various shades of reds, yellows, or oranges.

A small paw pressed down against something as he walked again, that let out an extremely loud CROAK. The noise was so sudden, Set nearly felt his soul leave his mortal body, springing up into the air, silver bangles clanging together a raucous clamor that caused the boy to yelp. Why do you have them if they scare you? Or maybe, they scare you and that's why you have them.

His body said bolt, but wide eyes caught sight of a tiny little toad resting in the middle of the path, hopping out of Set's near crash landing. Slender face moving to get a closer look at his little forest friend, he frowned with brows knit together. "I'm sorry for stepping on you, you gave me quite a scare, little friend."

  Those who came before [OPEN]
Posted by: Roderik - October 18, 2018, 03:35:58 PM - Replies (2)

OOC: Open to all members of Stoneclaw. Basically this thread is the discovery and settlement of the clan into the community cave.
And here's a music track to inspire the moment of discovery for the wall markings. We Are All Guests Upon the Land: https://g.co/kgs/CZ8Y44

The moment his paw touched the sand, Roderik felt a mixture of serenity and pain. Looking up to the sea, he thought of the time past he had spent with his Taverin and his father. Those had been some of the happiest times of his life and never again would they return. Taverin was gone, leaving what felt like a gaping wound inside his chest. The thought of him sometimes made it harder to even breathe. Roderik then took in a deep breath, realizing he had been holding it while lost in his memories. Shaking his head free of the sorrow, the young leader looked back to his small group to make sure they were all accounted for and well. Down the cliffside, the wind, and the cold that had come with it, was absent. They were his family now, his future, for as long as they chose to stand by his side. He wanted to prove he was worthy of their trust, but he knew he lacked the experience. He hoped they would be patient with him, while he learned to be the king they needed.

"There is a large cave nearby. I will go scout ahead to make sure it's safe. Those who wish to accompany me, be aware of your surroundings. We do not know if anything currently occupies this territory."

It was unlikely, as they had encountered no scent or claw markers on the way, but the wind could have covered the first... And the second he may have missed in his eagerness to move ahead. Roderik cursed his recklessness. The last thing he wanted was to put any of his companions in danger.

"The rest of you, stay here until we come back for you, alright?"

Moving ahead, Roderik kept a sharp ear and a cautious glance to what lay ahead. There were no noises to be heard aside from the constant coming and going of the sea, and the winds that soared high above the cliffs. As they got closer to the cave, the young sabre began to notice some items laying about the sand. They looked strange and foreign to him, seemingly made of wood. One of them looked like a miniature version of himself carved from a piece of driftwood. Lowering his head to sniff it, he wondered who had made it and why. Roderik frowned, thinking of the humans and their strange ways. Did humans live here? No, he couldn't smell them if they did... But perhaps they had lived here before.

"Be on guard"

The entrance to the cave was larger than he had anticipated. The ceiling rose almost as high as the cliff itself. The floor of the cavern was stone, smooth and soft beneath his paws. At first the cave seemed empty, but his eyes caught more strange items in some of corners as he explored further. A basket of reeds lay next to a pelt seemingly belonging to an animal who's fur he did not know. It was a silvery grey in color, and though the fur was short and looked stubby, it felt incredibly soft to the touch. Looking out into the depths of the cave, Roderik found some measure of peace in knowing that it was no longer inhabited and it would be safe to claim it for the night. Still, it was obvious the place had been lived here before... By whom? When? And why had they gone? Walking back to the others while still looking around, he asked the question aloud.

"Someone lived here before... Humans?"

The voice that answered him spoke solemnly. "Sabres..."

Frowning, Roderik opened his mouth to ask how the other could have come to such a conclusion, but before he could do so, his gaze was drawn upwards to the wall the other kept staring at. The question died in his throat as he saw...

The light of the sun reflecting on the sea came to bathe this one wall of the cave in a golden glow, seeming to illuminate the markings upon it.

Paw prints. Hundreds of them, littered the wall of the cave. Small ones seemingly belonging to cubs on the lower quarter, larger ones high up. Some of them were red, others black, but most of them were white and they stood out so much against the dark color of the stone that Roderik wondered how he had missed them coming in.

"Incredible..."

Walking closer, the young leader slowly raised a paw and placed it on the wall next to one of the marks. Who did this one belong to, he wondered to himself. How many of them had there been? Where were they now? So many questions, and perhaps in time they would find the answers. Lowering his paw, Roderik gave a nod of satisfaction.

"Fetch the others"

The cave was deemed safe, for now.

Time seemed non-existent. Days passed, but he wasn't sure how many or how long he had been without food or water. Occasionally his body would give, hinting that he needed a rest despite his determination to get home. It took forever, he felt like he was in hell.

Paws halted on the borders of an old giant, the smell of sulfur still pungent and he could hardly breathe the stench. No one was here, he already knew that. They left when Gray and Sincate rose to the throne, to take up thorny crowns and to bleed for the next generation. Saboro had crumbled, and what was left they took to a far away land. Dirge had gotten himself lost in those moments, lost on purpose as he wished to find his parents. He found them, safe and sound in a land that they could finally rest. New siblings had sprouted from old love and he was happy for them, but even though he wished he could stay in the mystical lands of Gemini, his heart was with those he truly loved.

And so he turned from the jungle, looking to the mountains. There were vast lands all around, they could be anywhere, but the cold winds from the summits called to him in some strange way. He'd start there.

Forever passed and forever came again as he ventured into the tundras, careful of the thick herds of buffalo that roamed and eyed the strange creature from a distance. He was lucky to find a day old carcass with some scraps left on, munching the bones and leather until he was satisfied enough to move on. The rivers were icy, something he wasn't used to, but his thick fur helped him stay warm and as he progressed, he slowed. Laying down under a mossy log with toadstools encircling, the rains of yesterday finally revealing patchy skies. He was tired.

He was tired.

He was so... tired.

As the sky brightened, Dirge woke with a start, blue eyes shifting in their wide sockets as his heart pounded against his ribs. Where was he? The ocean, did he still hear it? No, just morning birds and the distant groans of the herd. He sighed, relieved. Still, there was no sign of them.

For another day, he wandered, climbing and trudging up the mountain sides until one of them opened up into a valley. Crystal blue water glittered against the dim sunlight, and he got lost in the beauty of it all. Curiosity was what made him move forward now as he had never seen such a pristine body of water before. It wasn't until it was lost and all the trees closed in that he paused for a moment, his nose catching something familiar.

That scent. That scent! He found them! Adrenaline pumped through him, and he nearly ran through the territory screaming, but he stood still. Excitement turned into anxiety. What if... they thought he was a traitor? What if they didn't want him anymore? He was suddenly scared and shook, muscles quivering against aching bones. After what seemed like another forever, he barked and yipped, getting louder each time as if desperate.

Please...

He whimpered and hot tears ran down his snout.

I just want to go home.

Alphas are Away, Dirty Boys will Play

Were you barred from the Inarian party for being a "social disgrace?" Just want to hang out with the boys, without being nagged to bathe for once in your life? Do you like DEAD THINGS? Join the club!

He found what was left of an elk, after the more proper populace had their fill, swarmed in flies and looking like an absolute feast to the scavenger. Macbeth gnaws at the tough hide, red eyes scanning erratically for the inevitable predator to steal it away. When someone does approach, he bristles, a growl low in his throat and ichor-greased teeth bared about the skin he refuses to release. The smell is what brought him here, and it will certainly attract others-- if not this, then the next.

So, he tears a thin leg from the carcass and drags it a pair of paces back, settling back in the dirt with his fraction of the rotten prize, ears back defensively, but eyes ever-watchful.

There hadn't been a lull in her nerves since arrive, though she appeared calm and collect, anxiety had taken root in her mind at the very thought of their people just going off and mingling with the pack, thankfully some of their worst culprits were not here, she shuddered at the idea of Dirt walking around a place like this.

However Telana couldn't let herself dwell on those thoughts for too long, after all, she'd have to set up a meeting between the alphas. Touch base with them and continue their talk of an alliance, something they both could benefit from.

She would take this moment of solace to limp to a rest under the boughs of a willow tree, taking a deep breath as if it'd help ease the pain of moving into a seated position, spoiler: it didn't really. She exhaled sharply, breath uneven, but for the most part she was fine after the dull, numbing ache washed over her in the small waves. Eyes scanning the purple trees and actually enjoying the feeling of sun on her back. It was freshing to be here, where the air felt clean, rather than murky Alteron.

A twig snapped behind her and she tensed, eyes rolling as she tried to surmise who could possibly be trying to sneak up on her. "Cocytus, I don't need to hear about Sage again, please go away." Her tone was commanding, stern, but trying as nicely as she could possibly be to her nephew, the steps came again, and instantly her ears drew back. Enough, that's it. "Cocytus, I said-" Whirling around and stopping when amber gaze met a smaller form. "Oh.." Tone deadpan, but expression didn't do all that well to mask her discomfort, as she gazed back at a child?

The ginger woman grimaced at him, eyes bouncing from his tattered ears, ah. "Do you need something?" She questioned with a keen look, and without even missing a beat. "Come closer so I don't have to turn so much to look at you."
