Lonely, or Alone? Nope, Definitely Lonely

espite the colder atmosphere, the beach was still one of the most gorgeous things Cursive could rely on for a relaxing time. She wasn't sure where she was, honestly, as she was more of a forest animal, but stumbling upon a beach couldn't be better! Eyes twinkled in a golden hue under the Sun's rays, the scent of salt in the air was relieving, seagulls were cawing and circling high in the sky, and the wind was... unbearably chilly. This forced her to speed up in a brisk walk, her paws finally on that wonderfully warm sand. The crunch under her weight with each step rang a delight in her ears, making her sigh in content. The waves had receded, leaving all sorts of critters, holes and shells to explore. The wind had died down enough for her to fight back the warmth she had lost on her way here. So many new scents- so many new things to discover and snuff her nose into- this was going to be a blast!

A while after discovering a crab, two hermit crabs, playing some more with the crab and trying not to get pinched, and finally she was digging at these tiny little holes in the sand. There had to be something buried under there, right? She was facing away from the tide, however she would hear a certain roaring in her ears that would make her look back. "Eeeep!" she squeaked and then laughed with both fright and fun as waves about half as tall as her were headed straight for her. She galloped away quickly but was unable to escape the shallow ocean submerging her paws. Eugh. The water here was a lot colder than she expected. Once she was back on dry sand, she shook each of her paws before retreating back up and out of the beach. Maybe the ocean would be warmer at night. Whilst back on grass, Cursive plopped down and cleaned off her forepaws, enjoying the saltiness from it, but not the fishy taste.

She always did this sort of thing when she was perfectly healthy; well fed, not ill, in a good mood, feeling adventurous, etc. Perhaps that was the one gift she had about her species- while Winter was coming around the corner, she still only needed the small prey to keep herself in good shape. In fact, she excelled in hunting small prey. Naturally, maned wolves were solitary, however she had other plans in mind. She, unlike other maned wolves, felt a hint of loneliness. She didn't get it. She didn't like it. Her ultimate goal was to try and join a pack, to show them her loyalty, helpfulness... she wanted to be around others. Perhaps she was one of few extroverted maned wolves out there. It could've been something else, but she wasn't sure what. A familial setting, maybe? She loved being motherly, after all. Loved kids.

Some folk simply are alone and don't feel lonely. That was the usual niche of a maned wolf. Cursive just wasn't like that, though. She felt lonely. She didn't understand being alone. It's just not right for her. Not her lifestyle. She wanted to at least have someone with her. Or to join a pack. Living with just a mate was a normal thing her species did, too. She was okay with that, she just wanted someone compatible. Didn't have to be a lover. Would be great, though. She wasn't sure what she wanted more- she was desperate enough to be equally okay with any of these options.

After some time of paw-licking, she'd resume back to excavating any hole she could find and, this time, keeping a careful watch of the tide. Most of them were empty, which she expected, however she was determined to find whatever was making these tiny holes in the sand.

song inspo
It's fine, I'm fine, it's fine.

It's not fine, I'm not fine, it's not fine. A bubbling feeling in his chest, one with a strong pull that only seemed to make the hellion boy feel as though he was sinking. Days like these, moods like these, he called them quicksand. Fighting it only made him more tired.

He'd drop to against the lush, green grass with a loud thud, muffling a small whine, Toya'd roll onto his back. Looking up at the overcast sky with a tired frown. Gray days such as these weren't ones he really minded, they were nice enough after all, but they did seem to make it hard to do anything when he felt like this. When would he just be...fine?

A strong gust of wind ripped across the open field, tossing the boy's black messy mop of hair into a tangled heap and exposing his eye, Toya froze in that instant. Amber eye shifting about to see if anyone had spotted him, if anyone was even around to begin with, as he tried like mad to cover it. Flattening the fur over and over, pressing it against the side of his face, but over and over the wind kept coming.

The grass rustling as if it were laughing at his attempts. "Nonono... c'mon c'mon c'mon.. no please, noo.." The boy whimpered and howled against the wind, teeth bared in desperation turned rage, a paw pressed against the side of his face and claws spread as if he would shred his own face. "This...sucks." The boy sighed, wishing for Kol Nidre's normalcy, or Amen's. For something not so bizarre, for a condition that didn't horrify him.

There was plenty to explore here in Gemini, that's what she'd been told anyway. It was the very tagline that was aimed very perfectly at its target, and most certainly struck her with perfect accuracy. Aela had picked her audience well when she'd spoken, and that was really all it took for Viva to agree to give Gemini a chance at being home. Reality was it would take very little to entice her, to convince her to settle in a place that may just provide her with companionship, and family she'd lost. The open road had been lonely, exploration was plenty good, but an end to the loneliness was what, deep down, she wanted the most.

Unfortunately it looked like some exploration was still left up to her to do all on her own, and while it was of some disappointment not to have accompaniment, she still gladly set out, deeper into Gemini to see just what it did in fact have to offer. Turns out, there was a whole lot of Gemini to see. With not a clue what she was looking for or where, she'd traveled inward, passing remnants of the crumbling wall, traipsing past small streams that ran through the land, and eventually made it to the clustered trees that made up a forest. She'd stopped briefly, peering up into the treetops with curiosity, and then within. It took little investigation to spot the mighty remains of what once may have been a great castle.

Viva's face lit up when she pieced together her discovery, as thrilled as if she'd been the first to ever come across it. Humans were amazing, and she was enthralled with the thought of climbing one of the weather-worn towers. Imagine just what she could see from way up there. Bouncing a little where she stood, the young mutt bolted forward, excited to meet the building up close. Now, this formerly glorious stronghold had many ways to get in, on or around it, but Viva as never a girl of the path of least resistance. She paced along some its sides, overly eager but still holding back, trying to find what route suited her best.

The shortest distance was a straight line, right? A collapsed and decaying wall was what she chose, running at it with the speed at which her gangly legs could take her, and leaping up onto the stones. Some smaller pebbles fell away beneath her feet, not the most sturdy of paths, she was wholly undeterred, pressing forward excitedly. Her nails scrabbled at the structured, and with all her efforts, she managed to hoist what little weight she carried on her body at a steady speed upward. The top of the battlement called out to her, and no broken stone slabs or moss or ivy would stand in her way. Given some time and a whole lot of muscle work, Viva made her way to her goal, standing attop her chosen castle wall, where she could gaze out upon Gemini's land more fully.

Reaching up with her forepaws, she lifted to stand and admire her new home, panting all the while from her reasonable efforts, and tail swishing back and forth in pleasure at her accomplishment. Never mind the fact that there was a mildly damaged spiral staircase that led to this particular tower which would have gotten her to the same place with very little struggle. That just wouldn't have been nearly as fun.

Rae:

Quote:[trigger warning: gross stuff, eating dead bodies]

I'm meaner than my demons.

Running, always running, always making sure her feet were moving because she was always so tense always so anxious that there was some shadowy beast waiting to bite her. It was instinct, as natural as eating, and so it was something she had never questioned. It was who Rae was, in all her doubtful glory. She could never change that part about her. She was certain of that now, and it was something she'd never fully come to terms with. Why was she like this?

Rain wouldn't be too far off, she could smell it on the air, carried by an ominous wind. You can't keep that pace up for ever, baby doll. Heavy, heaving breaths escaping her as she came to a halt, thin limbs quaking under her weight.  Breath Rae, what the fuck are you doing, who the fuck are you running from? Everyone. Her brows furrowing together as she gasped out a choked hack, drool and spittle collecting on the ground as she looked on wide eyed. Gotta knock a little harder than that, her lips twisting into a tired smirk.

One moment she could be at odds with herself, and then in the same breath got about life like everything was at least 'normal'. Nothing was normal, nothing would ever be normal. Not in here, with these people, and this smell of rot- Speaking of which, head lifting to a decaying corpse that half lay draped on a rock. Carrion for the maggots that already feasted upon whatever or whoever it might have been. "Pathetic." Her voice sharp, cutting through the silence, tail raising behind her and fur bristling. For whatever reason he mouth watered, but she'd ignore... for now.

That corpse would never be her.

Amen lets out a sigh of relief as a few strays here and there approached, but the feeling of relief was soon ushered away as they began to ask questions. Of course, she was prepared for them- a weary glance was offered to Eve, who answered each question to the best of her ability, and to Francisca, who spoke bluntly and didn't skirt around the point.. like she would.

"Yes, we're.. welcome to take anyone on board who is interested in going back home with us. You're not obligated to stay, of course! You're always welcome to return.. ah.. home.."  although, she looked around the wasteland and gulped. Was this really home to any of them who came? Not that she could judge them for making due, but..

"Well.. the knowledge bit.. the specific knowledge bit can be answered by someone other than myself, as I.. I understand what it is we're looking for, I just can't put it into words, you know?" and that was something Deimos could do, or perhaps Franky and Eve would want to take over that part, but she suspected the kingdom's weird daughter had a better way of phrasing whatever it was they needed.

"If you're still not sure you want to come back with us, I suggest staying behind. We're.. on a tight schedule, you see? I.. We need to be going back home, and it's quite a trip, but we can chat a bit more on the way, how's that sound?" a paw reached up to nervously brush back stray hairs along her head, petting back her heavy ears as she grinned her awkward smile. "I'll even escort you back here when we're done, unless you choose to stay.. but please.. if you're willing to come along, we'd like to be out of here and back on the road before the sun sets."

And it was setting soon. Not that she wanted to rush them, she would've liked to stay out of Gemini for a bit longer, stretch her legs- search for Alteron to find Eira- learning about those from the inbetween, but ah..

Amen stands, dips her head and proceeds to slip past Eve and Franky with her father's light steps. She fumbled this expedition, and she couldn't bare to look at her companions, let alone speak to them. The little ghost hunter had hoped to find more than passerbys, but alas, anyone would do, for now.

this is just a continuation/end post for Hello! New friends!, as I want to get it moving.. I'd like a wrap-up of those who posted essentially deciding whether they wanted to go with Franky/Amen/Eve, or if they choose to stay, so that I know who all to introduce in their 'return' thread. Thank you, and I'm sorry for the wait!

i have seen what the darkness does

ooc
set sometime after keanu's thread. this isn't mandatory since franky is just a ranger, but she IS calling the other rangers. anyone else who wants to come can too if you wanna learn about saboro

actions - “speech”
It had haunted her more than usual. Oh, she had known that the jungle would reach out with its vicious tendrils to grope blindly at the areas beyond its reach. There had always been the fear that it would find Gemini. It was the fear that drove so many of them to fear even the slight resemblance to Coven, the fear that had made her wonder if the attackers had been jungle born. But only now did it feel real. And only now did Franky realize she could not always be at the border to recognize it. Saboro was vast and had of a life of its own and she was only one wolf.

So here she sat, one misty morning, atop the wall. Climbing the wall wasn't something she liked to do very often, but it provided a convenient place to stand above a group of wolves. For a moment she simply sat and stared out over the lowlands and the fog that hung low over it. The sun had only just begun to rise, and a few stubborn stars still stood in the sky. Franky closed her eye for a moment, and then turned until she was facing inland again, and took a careful seat. She let the breeze rippled through her fur before she tilted her head up and howled.

It was a softer howl than the one she'd done before for healer's aid, or for guards. No, this one would hopefully draw in any of the rangers that could hear it. The fact of the matter was that she had no idea where Aela was, she hadn't seen her in so long. Another time, she might have simply warned the Strider. But there was no one, and someone had to warn the others. Had to teach them.

Who do you think you are? A dark voice in her head said. It sounded familiar, but not like her own voice. Saborako? You're nothing.

Yes, she was nothing. And Gemini would be nothing if they didn't do something.

Franky peered down at the other Rangers. "I'm going to cut to the chase," she began. "You all need to know how to recognize Saboro if it comes knocking. Maybe you've heard that name, maybe you haven't. But by the time you leave, you're going to know how to spot a Saboran out of a crowd." She let her gaze drift across whatever crowd was here. "Don't waste my time if you think it's not necessary. Just get out of here. We're Rangers. It's our job to keep the borders safe. And I'm going to teach you how to do that."

Not many knew her well, she knew that. But she hoped they'd be able to recognize a deadly seriousness that she rarely exhibited. Something not quite Gemini about her.

shadows dance [ INARIA RETURN ]
Posted by: Chelae - October 29, 2017, 07:19:47 PM - Replies (8)

OOC
return thread from inaria!! bullet points are fine. inaria alphas: please let me know if there's anywhere you want inarian guests to check in first, i can link it here

Every step of the way back had been twinged with fear. No, something darker than fear. The same darkness that hung over the heart of the stone buildings, the same darkness that had left her and her siblings alone on the island. Who could forget the last time Gemini had returned from Inaria? But the trip had been quiet and pleasant. Still, Chelae didn't relax until she could see the open fields of the lowlands cresting over the horizon, and until her paws found the scent border.

It still didn't feel quite safe.

But... there were a lot of them here. There'd be Rangers around. So she threw back her head to howl out a summons for Akira and everyone else to come see the visitors. Hopefully someone else could sort out where they'd stay, her paws ached too much for her head to possibly process how all that would work. Still, before she gave up, she turned to look at the group.

"We've reached Gemini!" She announced. "I've called the pack. Others will come to help escort you in and show you around the territory." Or at least, she hoped so? No, yeah, that seemed reasonable. Besides, they had to lead them in to see the wall, right? It was hardly visible from the edge of the territory, so she imagined Akira would want to be there to see the amazed faces of the Inarians when they saw it. That would make all the miles they'd crossed worth it.

Chelae paused for a moment though. She glanced over at the others who had come along - particularly Margo and Iaera - and gave them a polite nod. She didn't want to acknowledge how much they'd done to keep her steady, but... still. Not acknowledging it wouldn't be, well, honorable, among other things. It was fair, and she had to be fair.

Oh, she hoped Akira would come down and greet the group. Then she'd see how well Chelae had done.

ZASHA:

Quote:ooc;
the whole family is encouraged to post and meet the kids, and i guess... smelly sunblink can post shatter in here to thrill kill these kids
just let the lil babs post first, after that there's no posting order!

Daddy was dumb, said that I’d be something special

The crackling of fire echoed throughout the abandoned cathedral, among her piles of fur, where smaller piles of flesh and fur nestled close to mother and father alike. The Dragon Mother had become more reclusive as of late, and Zasha had followed, staying by her side and only leaving to bring her food and water. Incubus and him taking turns offering their bodies for warmth and support. Zasha laid behind her, head draped on her back as that singular tired eye watched them. They were far larger now, yappy and full of character, he'd remembered the night they were born. The stench of iron, foul and unpleasant, but with it brought life.

He had been there for the birth of Atlas and Oktober, he regrettably was not there for Adrian, Juni, and Kiefer. The trio handed off to him unceremoniously, the mother dead in a ditch somewhere, but he was thankful he'd been here to see all of these new little lights. A low whine caught in his throat, far too content watching them and simply laying here, but he knew that their mother would want them to make an appearance. Shifting with a huff, he'd be slow to rise, nuzzling into Azuhel's neck fur, he'd nudge each tiny, chubby body with his snout.

Zasha's gentle nose boops would be relentless until the children finally stirred, offering each a kiss. "Up up up! Gonna get up up UP!" He called to them, his voice rasped in a hoarse tone, and if Inc was near by and would allow, he'd nuzzle his nose into the other as well. "Going outside, OOOOOOO AAAAAAAAH!!" He'd say in exaggerated tones, if only to get them to move faster and wake up a bit more.

The male usually took up the reins of mother hen, he was worse than a bear when it came to children. All those stories you hear of mother's doing anything for the children, you could equate it to this father. He might have been tired, but he had enough energy to love his children and take care of them the best he could. Each child deserved that same love. He'd nudge any stragglers as he walked them through and out of the cathedral, mindful to stay close to the vicinity, they'd come to a very small clearing speckled with sunlight and wild flowers.

"Rosie! Griff, Shy Shy, Ren, Faye Faye, Artie! Stay close!" Their father would call, ears flicking back, for the love of god and his goddamn nerves. Listen kiddos. Even with that one eye of his, Zasha kept his head on a swivel, bouncing from one child to the next. They were new to this world, good and pure, and his sweet little babies. Nothing bad could ever be allowed to happen to them.

"Outside is soooo fun!!! OOOOOO AAAAAAAAH! Look at the fun!!! LOOK!"

(OOC- THIS IS NOT YOUR RITE OF PASSAGE)
(tw-child abuse)
Oh what she had lost in the war. Everything had been taken away from her, her dignity, her eye, her pride. Her sense of safety. (and in some ways her religion). Adriel was there, to plant seeds of doubt in her mind, to make her wish, just maybe, that she had gone with him to begin with. They could be happy togeather. Perhaps Adriel would respect her, wouldn’t find children to replace her with. She gives a wistful sigh as she walks through the valley on the day after their return. She couldn’t live without Anamelech. She would never have to either, one day, one sad day when her love died, Thetis would gain her knowledge.  She had to keep her status to get there though.

She had to keep her rank, and she knew, any of these children could take it from her. Children whose parents had caused a war. Her tongue rolls over her teeth as she stands by the tar.  It was time that they learned their fate. It was time they all learned how cruel life was.

No one else in the valley could be trusted to do this, just her.

“CHILDREN” she calls. “MY CHILDREN I NEED TO SEE YOU.”

She would take them in only now, when betrayal was high. But she would never let them forget their birthright as traitors.   “Did you miss me while I was gone?” she asks, smiling coyly at them as she settles sitting down, tail wagging slightly.  Would they notice the giant boiled burn where she used to have an eye.

Would they bring it up?

“Hannah and Ezekiel are gone.” She tells them. “They turned tail on us, they and their heathen friends tried to kill us.” She watches them, what would they think, would they cry, mourn the loss of the only people who could ever love them?

“GET IN A LINE” she barks, standing up, pacing in front of them. They were all about to witness her fury, in a way that only one of them got too before. She had nothing to lose here, she was sure that Ana would respect her idea. Anamelech loved her after all, more than anyone else. More than these dirty children.

It would not be fun being the children of tyrants, she wonders if they know that, now they didn’t have to just appease Gigantea and avoid her jaws, but they also had to never disappoint her. She was a harder judge than Gigantea after all. There was no Mercy to Thetis. Anamelech didn’t teach her that. The valley didn’t teach her that. The war didn’t teach her that.  She goes to the first child, nudging them towards the tar with her nose. “I’m going to baptize you.” She tells them, tongue licking over her gums and teeth. “You will no longer be children of heathens, but, you will also never forget where you came from”
As she was burned by fire, by the red dragon, they would be burned by tar.
