V I R R A

star light, star bright

Virra's eyes open slowly, tiredly, head still numb with sleep. The sight around her is unfamiliar at first, her body tightening as she panics. Where am I? The familiar deserted skyline is replaced with one full of trees, thick trunks that reach up into the heavens and block out the sky. Sunshine filters through the gaps in the leaves, dancing across the rocky floor below her, spattering patterns of lights against the bleached faces of the walls surrounding her. It's only then that she remembers. The quarry, they called this the quarry, as she drifted in and out of consciousness, dragged by the scruff of her neck deep within her new home. Alteron. She's in Alteron.

Oukoku-Kai was wrong about a lot of things, nearly every thing, but they were right at least about one thing. The Red Dragon is terrifying. Azuhel, her name is Azuhel. Azuhel with a wicked grin and honey words steeped in a strange drawl, Azuhel with wild eyes and a body that pressed a bit too close just before she stole Virra.

There's a deep set sadness in her heart, as her eyes turn to what she can see of the sky above, peering past the face of the cliffs boxing her in. She wonders what Nastasia is doing, where her ... dearest friend is. Does she even know I'm gone? A clenching pain in her chest has her asking; does she care? Though Virra would consider them close, the other woman was always elusive with her emotions, her feelings. It took so long for her to open up to someone - to Virra - and now she's gone and now Nastasia is alone, and now --

Virra doesn't realize she's hyperventilating until the staccato of her breath catches in her throat and she coughs. No ... she can't think about that right now. Virra pulls herself up, stretching the tired ache from her bones, before looking around. There are other prisoners, slaves and captives taken from wars past, probably others who have upset  the current crown. She thinks she sees the Dragon in the distance, but it may be her creeping anxiety. The black chains of her fear shackle her in place until she can breathe again, shuddering and sitting with her head hung in defeat.

She's going to die here.

AURI EL

Well, he was completely and utterly lost.

The grey dire mix had been traveling for weeks now, aimlessly turning in whichever direction caught his eye first. It had been fun, initially, but as the days stretched onward, the seedlings of lonely began to take root. Though life had always been a solitary one back in the jungle, there was always a bustling of life there. The outside world on the other hand... it was vast. Exciting and fascinating for certain, but overwhelming to face alone. He cast a glance over his shoulder to the satchel that was slung loosely over his back, just a hint of ivory and empty socket peaking out from beneath the leather. "Well, I'm not entirely alone," A grin tugged at his lips. "Ahh, I'm going crazy here Pops."

Nonetheless, Auri El marched on as always, until something caught his eye to take him entirely off his path and precariously close to the clear scent of pack territory.

His attention was leagues away from potential dangers however. "What are you?!" The wanderer exclaimed, leaping toward a small critter that had padded out into the fading light of dusk. It was a funny looking thing, with a long white face and beady little eyes. And it certainly did not look happy with the wolf's sudden approach. Auri El flung his forelegs out to trap the surprised little beast from scampering off. "I just want to take a look at you, little friend." However, much to his surprise, the creature stared at him for a moment, jaws parting in a rather unpleasant grimace before flopping over in a motionless heap.

"Oh. Oh no. Oh no. Did you just die?!" Wine red eyes swept across his surroundings. His father may have been a chemist, but Auri El certainly didn't know enough to help the strange critter who he may have just mortally wounded with his presence. "Help! Over here please!"

song inspo
She sees the future in mysterious ways.
She started talking backwards, but nothing good it brings her.
So next time that she sees him; it'll be peace sign, middle finger.

There was constant reasoning behind all of this, that's what you're supposed to tell yourself anyway. That your mom ain't as fucked up as people really say, that she didn't try to kill your siblings and your uncle. That she's still here, and that despite everything that's your mother and you have to love her unconditionally, just like she does for you. If only things were so easy to sweep under the rug. Cause let's be honest that's what it's really all about right? They wanna sweep what happened up and away, and we're not gonna talk about my mom, cause that's just too painful. Fuck the kids that it hurts in the process, they don't matter right? If that's coping, then coping can go fuck itself.

Leaving Saboro was supposed to be a turning point for the better, he remembered how broken she was. How she was screaming and crying, that's when dad had died. No one but her mourned him, he didn't like talking about it. So Kaolin skirted it entirely, buried that seed way deep inside his heart to let that bitterness flourish and grow, what was the point of a machine that only took and served no purpose other than just that. Ma left that place because they finally broke her, and Saboro's last hoorah was to leave her children with their broken mother. She was in so many pieces, there was no putting her back together.

Gemini was the in between, and maybe it was bad of him to blame this place for what had happened at the borders. Who was to blame really? But there was still that feeling of resentment that boiled within him. Rolling onto his back he'd look up at the overcast sky, a frown pulling his lips downward into a disgusted scowl. "Ya know, it's dumb.. but you can't stop thinkin about it, can ya?" He growled to himself, snorting a hefty breath of air through flared nostrils. "Go  back to Saboro and show them what's what. Pay'em back." It was a dumb and unsupported thought, his mother would have rung his neck if she heard it. Just like Khanda's.

ooc: open to 3 other people!

It was as if she was opening her eyes for the first time, all over again. The world was brand new, sparkling and shining and mysterious and enchanting. Everything astounded Harriette, everything overwhelmed her with a new sense of curiosity. Those icy hot eyes glazed over in awe, rolling here and there, then back over yonder. What was that? The grass looked so soft. What is that sound? The air felt so freeing. How does the sky do that? The clouds floated carelessly across the blue horizon. There was nothing she was seeing that didn’t have her insides bubbling with excitement, her blood at a constant low boil, her nerves vibrating beneath her goosebump-ridden skin.

She wanted to run; she wanted to sprint as long and as hard as she could. She wanted to feel the wind on her cheeks, enjoy the way it combed through her fur. She wanted to breathe in the world, fill her lungs with its wonder, taste the joy it had to offer on her eager tongue. But more than that, she wanted to sit here forever and gaze at her surroundings until her eyes melted out of her skull and dribble down her smiling face. She didn’t want to miss anything that this place had to offer… She didn’t want to miss anything

A small wind escaped from Harriette’s nostrils, and in her fleeting imagination, she watched as a cloud of shimmering pink expanded in front of her before dissipating into the air around her. Turning her head slowly, she looked back at where the faerie pools laid, hidden in shrubbery, trees, beautiful flowers, and the shadows of the mountainside. She smiled softly. She loved those faerie pools, they were easily her favorite place in Gemini (aside from her den). It was where she discovered her calling as a healer. Looking down at her paw, Harriette recalls patching a minor flesh wound with moss. Briefly, the moss is on her paw again, she feels the dull sting of a scratch.

Raising her head, she sighs softly. Perhaps she should be back at the tree, checking on father, ensuring he’s doing his exercises to keep that leg in full working condition. He was young yet, she didn’t want to see him lose motion in his leg at that age. She knew he wasn’t weak, but they had done a number on that leg of his. Those demons that tried to cast her parents into Hell, into the screaming flames that licked the Earth’s underside. She hated them for what they did to mother and father…

She blinked away the thoughts, huffing lightly. The thought of father being a young wolf reminded Harriette that he was probably out and about, socializing no doubt. Or perhaps he was simply hovering over any one of his children he could find.

Harriette quickly scanned around her.

She was not the lucky target this time. Not today, at least.

Lifting herself from the soft grass, she began to walk. Not in the direction of the healers’ den, however. Harriette had decided she was going to take some time off today. She felt she’d earned it. She’d been caring for mother and father for … Quite some time. Sometimes she wondered if perhaps they were meant to die that day, but an angel reached down and lifted them from their graves. It seemed more viable in mother’s case. It was why she lost consciousness, it was why her memory and her sense of direction (and maybe a part of her sanity) abandoned her. The Angel had to steal those away from her mind, had to keep them for itself. The Angel could not let mother remember the its sheer brilliance. The pure beauty of an angel would leave you blind, would make everything in this land seem dull and hideous. The Angel wanted mother to retain the ability to see beauty in this world, rather than view it as an ugly, broken bone.

Harriette thanked The Angel every day, but wondered why mother was so deserving of being given a second chance. Harriette loved her, more than most anything in her life. But Harriette also knew that with mother came a dark, troubled past. There were things buried deep in her history that Harriette would never learn about, things that Harriette never wanted to learn about. So why was mother given a second chance?…

The daydreaming girl paused, lifting her chin to look up at the sky, wondering where The Angel was now. She always imagined that every angel only got to save one person, and after that, they were set free. So where was The Angel now?

Her pupils dilated, her mind tingling. She watched as The Angel soared above her, a dazzling light against a pale blue sky, brighter than the sun. The Angel had an immense wingspan, each powerful wing beating the sky with the strength of a thousand doves. The Angel was free, free to do anything. So it flew, it flew far and wide, smiling down on Gemini, shining brightly on the castle, the old willow; bringing life to everything in its shadow of pure beauty. ‘Thank you’, she mouthed, eyes watering slightly as she stared, its light nearly blinding.

Casting her gaze downward, she scolded herself gently. She didn’t need to question why mother was given a second chance. Her mother sacrificed herself countless times for her family, was constantly ensuring they were given a chance at every possibly opportunity. She was so selfless, she was so brave, she was so beautiful. Her soul was so astoundingly beautiful, it took Harriette’s breath away some days. Mother was always deserving of being saved. Harriette would save her a thousand times if she had to, and she wouldn’t stop there. Mother had such an alluring aura, the kind that brought a sense of calmness. Not just anyone had such a pure soul and an enchanting aura… Only mother.

Thank you,” the words were real this time, and they hung lightly in the air before sprinkling onto the grass. Thank you for sparing my mother’s life. Thank you for granting me more time with her. Thank you for letting her stay, to love her family, to do so many great things.

Harriette didn’t know what she’d do without mother or father. Or her family in general, for that matter. She loved all of her siblings so much. She didn’t spend a lot of time with them, but she always knew they loved her, and they always knew she loved them. It was something that did not need to be acted out daily, it was something that they could feel when she was near. It was something she could feel when they smiled softly at her, casting sideways glances, making sure she’s doing alright.

Her litter of siblings were the ones she always felt closest to, having stumbled around the den with them on clumsy puppy paws, bumping into each other for comfort, sleeping in piles on top of each other, growing together, playing together, forming armies together…

Perhaps Harriette was always the outcast, but she never felt alone. She could always feel them. She still felt them, always. Deimos, Akira, Aquarian, Marcus, Archer, Kariya… Tauro… She always felt them, no matter how far they were. She would always be connected to her closest siblings.

She could feel herself building bonds like this with the second litter now as well. It was coming slower than with her immediate siblings, but it was forming nonetheless. It was exciting to feel these new bonds forming, and exhausting all at the same time. She could see these new threads being spun, attaching her to her younger siblings, dragging along behind her wherever she went. She could always follow these threads and find her siblings at the other end, never needing to feel alone or afraid. She always had them at the end of that thread. Always. Sometimes Kariya’s thread and Tauro’s thread would lead her astray, sending her to the cliffs or the borders, where she would still find herself alone. But usually, they were just playing tricks on her, and she’d turn around to see them snickering behind her. She’d smile at them. They’d laugh and run into the shadows, waiting to lead her on a new journey the next time she followed that thread…

A small smile tugged at her lips as she thought about this, and wondered where those threads might lead her today. She followed its winding path, heading toward the castle, into the woods that surrounded the North side. She trotted freely, following the thread, until she heard a few branches snapping, which caused her to halt. She turned her head, trying to find the source of the sound, eyes scanning the area. Was it food? Was it family? … Was mother lost again?

Mother?” She called out softly, the words fizzling as they escaped her maw. She looked around slightly, but was suddenly finding it very dark within the cluster of trees.

speech thoughts

The trees swayed, casting their shadow on the ground below as they danced to the breeze blown in from the ocean. Even from this distance, the salt in the air could be tasted by Moons. The maroon female lay beneath the shade of a Jacanda tree, basking in the array of scents that her sensitive nose analyzed. It was a peaceful sight, something that calmed her soul in ways that many other things could not.

With a sigh, Moons directed her gaze to the far distance. Her fur was more gray now; it was apparent that she had gained a few years. Not that she was old -- she would laugh it off if anyone pointed it out. She was just a young grandmother! But it did not escape her notice that her coat was changing. Her body just refused to acknowledge the change. Perhaps it was her lifestyle as a soldier that kept her mind young. Still, at the age of seven she had seen and done a lot. It was the reason she sometimes felt the way she did now; tired, but not wanting to rest. Instead she allowed herself these few moments of relaxation, laying beneath a purple tree and enjoying the sights.

Vaguely she watched others walk by, smiling at those who made eye contact with her. Such was the personality of the Marchioness. Her public face was always that of the energetic wolf she wished to be for the world, even when she didn't feel it herself. Frankly, Moons wasn't sure what brought on this sudden exhaustion. This time though, she gave in a little to it, and remained there in the shade. Perhaps the presence of another would cheer her up and spark her energy. Naturally though, she did not seek anyone out in particular. Moons as always, refused to burden others with her problems.

"Perhaps today isn't one of those days," she mumbled to herself with a small smile. Her tail thumped a few times on the ground, and her gaze lifted to the skies. From above, a small flower broke free from the branch it was on, and floated down to the wolf below. Moons watched the flower drift down, and it landed on her nose. With a small laugh, she tilted her head down so that it continued to fall onto her paws. There she held the flower in her front paws as she watched the world of Inaria drift around her, much like the flower she now held.

- Haiku -

The hefty clatter of paws against stone echoed off the cliffs. The wind was eerily quiet, just barely above a whisper as it traveled up the rough slope, rustling her pelt. Huffing against the evening, she pressed on, determined to get out of the wind and cold. She had a plan to make camp for the night somewhere close before going on. However at this rate, she wouldn't get very far and it was then, that she forgot just how hard mountains were to navigate in the cold. Just before she could go on, a sneeze nearly scared her- only to realize it was her own. Looking for the cause of the sudden action, she spotted it- several, no.. millions of flakes dancing on the currents of the wind, traveling down to earth. Frowning as her ears pinned back, she trudged on, careful and cautious with her steps, not to puncture the soft pads that had eventually hardened to the terrain. With a whip of her tail, and lunging up onto her hinds, she met the rock beneath her paws with grace, taking the moment to over look her current area, wondering where exactly, what happened to all the life. But before she could go too deep into her thoughts, she took a minute, to greet the cold.

Awkward Turtle (Weiss x Ki Tisa)
Posted by: Ki Tisa - November 12, 2017, 07:38:45 PM - No Replies

[10:10] -- dreamingAlice [DA] The day after their arrival on the border-- a turbulent event at best-- finds Ki Tisa at the bank of one of Inaria's little creeks. His sore paws are screaming, and after a moment he steps into it, lowering his head to drink, ears twitching instinctively. There are no crocodiles in Inaria. But one doesn't break childhood habits so easily. --

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[10:16] -- brokenPersephone [BP] is not a happy camper about any of this she'll have you know!!! ... or not. Because the chill in the air means that her mood has shifted along with her colors, and she has retreated within herself for the most part. But she has to be a good host despite how the thought sours her stomach and makes her anxiety spike, so Weiss eventually comes out of hiding (a strong word really). --
[10:16] BP: H-Hello...
[10:17] -- brokenPersephone's [BP'S] voice drifts off, and she shifts on her feet. Really, she is a picture of grace and totally not an awkward turtle. --
[10:17] BP: Are you finding everything... a-all right?

[10:22] -- dreamingAlice [DA] If he wasn't so exhausted, the sudden voice would have sent him into panic. As it were, if a bear dropped down from the sky and started eating him, he'd just kind of sigh about it and whisper "thank god". Still, he startles a little, whipping his head towards the she-wolf who met them the other day. He regards her maybe a little too long before answering. --
[10:22] DA: Hi.
[10:22] -- dreamingAlice [DA] he looks at the creek. then back to her. --
[10:22] DA: I guess so?

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[10:25] -- brokenPersephone [BP] meets his wide-eyed stare with one of her one, blinking stupidly at him when he answered. What did you expect when you ask someone a question, Weiss?? She looks distinctly uncomfortable, but it's not just him as the season makes her uncomfortable in her own skin really. She swallows, a lot on her mind, but a lack of courage to say any of it really. --
[10:26] BP: That's... good. I'm uh happy t-to hear that...
[10:27] -- brokenPersephone [BP] looks like she wants the ground to swallow her. If only the person typing new the outcome of a certain challenge maybe this could help!! --
[10:27] BP: How was the journey...?

[10:28] DA: Uh... My feet bled.
[10:28] -- dreamingAlice [DA] Wonders how his sister handles interactions like this with such ease. Talking?? --
[10:30] -- dreamingAlice [DA] Ok Ki Tisa I guess that could have been MORE awkward but you're really reaching for the sun here. He makes what might be like... an attempt at a smile?? But it really just looks like he's suffering on the inside and also the outside. –
[10:31] -- dreamingAlice [DA] Finds the fact that he has no control over his life really funny all of a sudden and laughs out loud. --

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[10:31] -- brokenPersephone [BP] claps wolfhands good talk time to add a sticker in my dream journal --
[10:33] -- brokenPersephone [BP] turns to leave this awkward interaction because even with her social ineptitude she's aware this is not how wolfhumans communicate and it's best to abort mission really, but his laugh startles her and she freezes in place –
[10:34] -- brokenPersephone [BP] goes from wary to double wary what the fuck was in the water over in Gemini i mean i know we have bodies but at least we're not all WEIRD --
[10:35] BP: Are you... Are you okay? Not just your feet I mean though if you need something for that I can help I can try I think I mean... Ah...
[10:35] BP: Are you all right?

[10:36] DA: Haha no!!
[10:36] DA: Probably not.
[10:36] DA: But you know! That's life I guess!
[10:37] -- dreamingAlice [DA] I can't remember months of my life and just ran like 500 miles after seeing a bunch of mangled bodies but could be worse i guess #Positivity --

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[10:38] BP: I guess...
[10:39] -- brokenPersephone [BP] decides to stay then. Maybe she wants to have a good conversation but honestly it's probably because this is like a car fire and she can't stop watching --
[10:40] -- brokenPersephone [BP] opens her mouth to say something but closes it --
[10:40] -- brokenPersephone [BP] opens it again --
[10:40] BP: Does it... does it get easier you think?

[10:43] DA: Life??
[10:43] -- dreamingAlice [DA] Considers for about three seconds before laughing again. WHOOO boy. Those days without sleep are catching up. --
[10:44] DA: If it does it hasn't started yet.

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[10:45] -- brokenPersephone [BP] considers his words no matter how cuckoo he's acting. She doesn't have a lot of friends okay Ki Tisa you are her Oprah --
[10:46] -- brokenPersephone [BP] takes a step back however --
[10:47] -- brokenPersephone [BP] but stays because okay this is weird as fuck so's her life and she probably needs to watch this asshole look at him he can destroy them all single-handed --
[10:47] BP: Well maybe I can help...?
[10:48] -- brokenPersephone's [BP'S] face twists like she clearly doesn't want to but at the same time kind of does? This asshole and his mind games he's too powerful --
[10:48] BP: Let me get something f-for your feet

[10:51] -- dreamingAlice [DA] Sits in the fucking water because WHY NOT! Who can stop me? NOT GOD!!! Not EVEN! --
[10:51] DA: It's fine.
[10:51] DA: Don't worry about it.
[10:52] DA: What was your name? I'm Ki Tisa.

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[10:56] -- brokenPersephone [BP] sits on the land because you know she's not a fucking animal and doesn't want to freeze her bits off like SOME individuals. Ugh. Just the thought makes her curl her tail around herself. --
[10:56] -- brokenPersephone [BP] also it's clear she doesn't really know what to do since he refused her offer of help. How do normal people have conversations? --
[10:56] BP: Ki Tisa? That's a nice name...
[10:57] BP: I'm Weiss
[10:58] -- brokenPersephone [BP] finds her racing heart start to slow however, though maybe that's all the weird shit happening startling it out of its usual fast rhythm --
[10:59] BP: You did say you were bleeding... How can I not worry about it?
[11:00] -- brokenPersephone [BP] looks at her own feet, clearly out of her depth as seen by her more emotional words. --
[11:00] -- brokenPersephone [BP] why did she care. those weren't just feet. those were ENEMY FEET!!! --

[11:02] DA: Huh?
[11:02] DA: Oh.
[11:02] DA: It's fine. They'll just callous.
[11:02] -- dreamingAlice [DA] He draws a deep breath and expels it in a BIG GUST. --
[11:02] DA: Sorry. I'm just tired.

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[11:04] -- brokenPersephone [BP] stays quiet. wiggles a bit in her seat. looks at birds flying overhead --
[11:04] -- brokenPersephone [BP] whispers "why is this so difficult" --
[11:05] BP: Did you not sleep well... ?
[11:05] -- brokenPersephone [BP] hates herself because what is this 20 questions get your shit together --
[11:06] BP: O-oh! I can go if you want me to i-if i'm bothering you it's okay I understand
[11:07] -- brokenPersephone [BP] shuts the natural disaster that is her mouth, sighs. --

[11:10] DA: I mean. We didn't really stop often.
[11:10] -- dreamingAlice [DA] Not that he tends to sleep much better on a good day, but, well. That might be a little too much information, despite feeling awful LOOSEY GOOSEY. --
[11:10] DA: You know.
[11:10] DA: On the way here.
[11:11] DA: You're not bothering me.
[11:11] DA: You live here anyway.

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[11:13] BP: I'm sorry.
[11:16] -- brokenPersephone [BP] understands what it means to be tired down to her bones. Sleep is not a thing for her during the winter and the war just made it that much harder to get rest. Even now being awake in the day time is difficult, her shoulders shaking softly if you were close enough to see it, but she keeps herself at a distance. --
[11:16] BP: Just because I live here doesn't mean you have to put up with me though...
[11:16] -- brokenPersephone [BP] smiles a small thing for the first time this whole conversation --
[11:17] -- brokenPersephone [BP] is not at ease, but she seems to have relaxed some around this stranger with traitor feet --

[11:17] DA: Sorry. I know this is weird. I don't really know how to talk to people.
[11:17] DA: I was always really bad at it.
[11:17] DA: I'm fast though so that's why I volunteered.
[11:21] -- dreamingAlice [DA] looks back at her. --
[11:21] DA: What do you do in Inaria? Do you have a job?

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[11:21] BP: Yeah... Yeah, neither do I really. If you couldn't tell.
[11:22] -- brokenPersephone [BP] chuckles softly --
[11:22] BP: You like to run? I like running too.
[11:23] -- brokenPersephone [BP] would offer to accompany him on a jog but lol broken feet and lol weiss is just broken --
[11:24] -- brokenPersephone [BP] also she's awkward did we mention this --
[11:24] BP: I've been to Alteron, but never Gemini...
[11:25] BP: Oh me? I'm INSERT RANK HERE BECAUSE CHALLENGE IS HAPPENING
[11:25] BP: It's... it's exhausting though
[11:25] BP: Just
[11:25] BP: Everything

[11:26] DA: That sounds important.
[11:26] DA: I'm a Ranger. They're almost sentries. Sort of.
[11:26] -- dreamingAlice [DA] Lies the fuck down in the creek, looooooooool. --
[11:27] DA: I've been to. A lot of places. I guess.
[11:27] -- dreamingAlice [DA] More than he remembers. --

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[11:28] -- brokenPersephone [BP] wonders how much she can say, seeing as how no one's let her talk for this long anyway --
[11:28] BP: That sounds exhausting too
[11:30] -- brokenPersephone [BP] is not even surprised when he lies down in the creek wolfjesus would he be blue when he gets out of there --
[11:32] -- brokenPersephone [BP] also the last sentence should raise a red flag, but this is weiss who has little social experience and honestly it all goes over her head --
[11:32] BP: Alteron was nice... A little warm though. I don't know... I think I'd just rather stay home. It's nice here I think...
[11:33] -- brokenPersephone [BP] wolf shrugs --

[11:34] -- dreamingAlice [DA] brows furrow as he watches little minnows swim casually by. His ears twitch. --
[11:35] DA: How warm?

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[11:37] BP: ... Warm. Nice warm.
[11:38] -- brokenPersephone [BP] slips her notice that maybe she would be a lot healthier in a different sort of climate where there aren't harsh winters and actual snowfall --
[11:38] BP: I don't think it snows there
[11:39] -- brokenPersephone [BP] looks at the trees up above, watching the last of the leaves rustling in the wind, and knows that she's finally settled down now. --

[11:40] -- dreamingAlice [DA] shifts again, ears pinned back. It never snowed either. In Saboro. Was Alteron close? Was Alteron in the south? Did they see the volcano when it blew? The minnows swim by and flash in the light dancing on the surface of the water. He sees it and feels strange, like maybe he's part of that light instead of his body. Then he shakes his head. --
[11:41] DA: I never saw snow. Until recently.
[11:41] DA: Just rain.

[Image: weissemblem250_by_omniwitch-dbtkqc4.png]
[11:43] BP: Snow is...
[11:44] -- brokenPersephone [BP] wonders how she can describe it. Maybe it would help if y'know her owner actually had seen it before but we're gonna wave some wolfhands --
[11:46] -- brokenPersephone [BP] still wonders how to describe something that brings her such pain but yet is just an intrinsic part of herself --
[11:46] BP: Snow is... cold.
[11:47] BP: But nice.

It had been long enough, it had been the topic of avoidance, buried deep within and behind any obstacle. Yet he and his Wife would be soon departing for Gemini with a party, and it was at this point that there was little left to be done before departure. This, was certainly something that needed to be done... Something that had Ghost tense and in a fowl mood. Large body shifted from the cliffside, where he'd been staring down at the jagged rocks and waves that thundered below. Salty breeze pushing his contrasting fur backward as he wandered from the Ocean. Moving steadily along Inaria's trails, pausing every once and awhile to greet a familiar face... And get acquainted with an unfamiliar face.

Ghost knew almost everyone here, it was his job to know who was who. Who belonged to them in case of intrusion, and it was very clear he was keen to be familiar with each member. Even if it was only to understand they were Inarian, or if he could, recall their job and social standing. That was more difficult, it felt impossible to keep tabs on what every single member was doing for work. The King did like to know everyone was alright though, even if he came off as fairly standoffish. He tried hard to be more social, and it was clear to himself he was procrastinating along the way.

Glancing up toward to Sun to gather an idea of the time, he shook his large skull and moved along with purpose. Posure tall as he wandered past the Gardens, where he'd had spent a large amount of time with Lotus growing through his young adult life. A pang of missing the golden Healer buzzed in the back of his mind, but he kept forward instead of pausing to find his Friend. Forward onto where the now familiar scent hung, and his jaw tightened while he stood on, light eyes searching for his Father.

"It's about time we spoke." Firmly stated, with strain and distaste. This was the last place he wanted to be, and Ghost would not be shy about making that obvious.

your body is the road to where peace begins [Challenge for Emissary rank]

Weiss Wrote:With winter on the horizon making itself known with the chill in the air and darkening afternoons, Weiss knew that she was living on the borrowed time that the unusually warm autumn had granted her. Soon enough she'd change from the outwardly enthusiastic girl into one secretive and nocturnal who played her cards much closer to her chest, but for now she had to grasp the opportunity that was left in the vacuum of the Emissary's absence to do what she could in order to strengthen the pack. To do what she could to make sure that something like the war that had destroyed lives and families would never happen again. Paws still slate from the activated melanin allowed the wraith to shift between trees towering despite how some lacked chunks of bark, ears pointed forwards as she made her way across ground washed clean by the summer rains of the blood staining it. She chose the Meeting Grounds, a place she could sit among her peers instead of above them, and called with that soft, eerie howl of hers once she had settled in the center with her tail curved loosely around her flank.

She waited for those either invited or curious enough to join, and then she began.

"I'd like to challenge Blaise for his position as Emissary," Bicolored eyes in that foxish face glinted as she raised her chin and shifted her shoulders out ever so slightly, projecting a calm sort of confidence that came with mulling over this decision for a long time now. It had taken a lot of introspection to find that she was perhaps capable of this position despite the emotional and physical setbacks she experienced with the seasons like it was clockwork, but she had found that she could do it if she just set her mind to it. That they didn't have to define her if she did not let them. "He was absent when Inaria needed him most, slacked in his duties in our darkest hour. Perhaps he even left us weaker than we should have been as we were without information he should have provided for us." She nodded to those gathered as she outlined her points, meeting eyes with those who left them receptive with none of the frailty they might see in her frame. "I however was not."

She bowed her head as she began to speak her next words, her gaze drifting down to legs still patchy as the fur ripped from torn flesh still tried to grow back, but her eyes soon slipped shut from the memories. "Even though I'm not the strongest by any means, I still fought for my country. I was due for the caravan to Nardir, but when I found that I had lost my way I stood my ground and did whatever I could to defend Inaria. I have the scars under my pelt to prove my claims if there are any doubts." Weiss nodded again as she laid down her defense, but the roll she had garnered with her words allowing that strength in her chest to blossom once more. Her eyes then opened to meet those of the people around her unflinchingly if they dared to judge her character and her efforts. "I also volunteered to lead a group into Alteron even though we were still healing to thank them for their words of warning, to strengthen our alliance with gifts and goods, and to invite their children over to our land to teach them about our values and who we are as Inarians."

Weiss stood before them all- her heart, her ambition, and her love for them all laid bare, and accepted their slings and arrows.

"I'd like the opportunity to continue to prove that I am capable of such duties."

Kay Wrote:Blaise will have one week to respond before this challenge ends in favour of Weiss.

Gin Wrote:Gin had a lot on his mind.

It was a bit of an unusual thing for the young adult. Normally he paraded throughout the pack lands with an air of relaxation that most weren't able to carry. He had a grin on his face for anyone who cared to look in his direction, and honestly he often filled his time just moseying around the place. But nowadays he spent it poking around to those who were interested in becoming Pages like himself. With Blaise having up and left the seat empty, he took it upon himself to fill it in spirit and get things organized. Despite his confidence in his job (and he had plenty of that!), he knew doing the missions by himself left a lot of blank spots.

Which was mostly why the howl took him by surprise. A wolf he didn't recognize, asking for Blaise? Had they not caught up to the news yet? Perked ears listened for a moment even after the cry died down, searching perhaps for an answering call from his mentor. It made him unexpectedly nervous, something he shook off and ignored. "Better go see what's up," he commented to a bird perched nearby. The bird tilted his head and peered at the wolf. Okay fine, so Gin was talking to himself. That wasn't a bad thing!

Right?

He appeared at the Meeting Grounds, finding a female who looked a lot like Haylyn the ex-leader of Inaria. At first he thought it WAS her, but then stopped himself short when noticing it wasn't. Instead he raised a brow at the girl just before she began to speak. "I'd like to challenge Blaise for his position as Emissary." If he had been drinking out of a cup, he would have spurted his drink everywhere, choking on it. As it were, Gin's jaw merely dropped in uncovered surprise. You'd like to what, exactly???

"He was absent when Inaria needed him most, slacked in his duties in our darkest hour. Perhaps he even left us weaker than we should have been as we were without information he should have provided for us. I however was not." Very grand and all, but did she know the first thing about being a Page, let alone an Emissary? Was she aware of the political stances Inaria had with the rest of the world? Not for nothing, but Gin had been working hard! It wasn't that he wanted the position... he wasn't exactly jumping at the chance for it. But he didn't know this female, let alone what knowledge she had to lead them.

The girl had more to say, so he politely listened. But on the inside he was bursting with questions for the wolf whose name he didn't even know. "Even though I'm not the strongest by any means, I still fought for my country. I was due for the caravan to Nardir, but when I found that I had lost my way I stood my ground and did whatever I could to defend Inaria. I have the scars under my pelt to prove my claims if there are any doubts. I also volunteered to lead a group into Alteron even though we were still healing to thank them for their words of warning, to strengthen our alliance with gifts and goods, and to invite their children over to our land to teach them about our values and who we are as Inarians. I'd like the opportunity to continue to prove that I am capable of such duties." Gin didn't know who else would show up, but he was solely focused on this proclaimed wolf who wanted Blaise's position. And if she won it, fine by him.

But he was going to make sure he had his say, first.

"Excuse me," he said, stepping forward out of the (possible?) crowd that formed. Taking bold steps, assertion gained from experience on the road outside of Inaria's borders, he stood in front of the gray girl without an ounce of hostility. No, he was here to merely poke and prod at her case. Be the devil's advocate, if you will. If you knew the job of Page well enough, this wouldn't come as a surprise. "My name is Ginsuisei. Ya can call me Gin, though. I have been a Page, working under Emissary Blaise for a good long time now." He gave a small smile, nostalgic of those days where he pestered the older man for all of his knowledge. "I mean no offense in standing before you, but I have to ask. By what means do you plan on being our leader?" In a motion mirroring his mother, he tilted his head.

"I didn't see you at the Page recruitment. And as far as I know, before the recruitment, I was basically the one and only Page serving Inaria to deliver messages and knowledge to our allies. In other words... I have never seen you before. I don't even know your name." He wasn't trying to be mean, or discourage her. Quite the opposite -- he wanted more faces to his rank and his co-workers. But he didn't want her to fall flat on her face when it came to really take on the job and the responsibilities on her shoulders. "Why should I be offering my loyalties to you?" It might sound rude, but this was the most serious Gin had been in a long while (other than on missions to other packs). He really wanted to know. "Why should I follow someone who steps up to take a leadership position after a single group mission to an allied pack -- and prior to that, has only been a whisper in the wind, never seen and only sometimes heard?" Gin was definitely a fun guy -- but mess with his job, and he was more serious than anyone you had ever seen before.

Aeolus Wrote:He heard a summons for a name he recognized as being the one he was supposed to have delivered his other message to so since it was still waiting to be delivered he headed towards the call in the hopes he would finally be able to dispense with his last task. When he arrived he found a young female and Gin, the one from his ranking as a Page and more specifically the one who had been in charge of the recruitment, already there. Shortly the female began speaking and it turned out she was challenging this Blaise for his rank and well implying that he was at fault for the war. Serious accusations indeed even if they were uncertain and mostly implied but he of course was perhaps a bit too new to know. He listened as she spoke though about fighting in the war which was an interesting thing to say for qualifications to be a..whatever the Emissary rank was since well alot of wolves, himself included, had also been in the war and taken part. Of course he didn't think that was reason to discount her as a leader but..even leaders of fighting ranks needed to be able to do more than just fight in order to lead and so he wondered what other qualifications she had but was rather hesitant to say anything in case there was more that those who were not new to Inaria were already aware of concerning the girl.

Once she finished however and Gin began to speak he he began to wonder more and more about the girl's qualifications as he nodded in agreement with his recruiter. He knew what happened if you were inexperienced in a rank like this, he'd lived it after all so he was rather interested to hear her answers as well especially since from what Gin had said the Emissary was the lead diplomat and her remarks about fighting in the war being her chief qualification were..actually rather offensive. Of course they'd been offensive even before he had known that the Emissary was the lead diplomat but now that he did know his thought was that her phrasing, even if she hadn't done so intentionally, still sounded as if she thought she was better than those she would be leading..as if her sacrifices were the only ones that were important which if she did that on a diplomatic trip well..it would hardly be very diplomatic and was more likely to cause one of the very issues they were supposed to solve and prevent and having a leader that could not do so that was supposed to train the others well..he didn't know how well that would work.

It made very interested in what her answers to Gin's very valid points and questions, at least in his opinion, were going to be while he wondered whether he could or should add his own observations or whether he even had the right to seeing as he was not a native Inarian and thus was not familiar at all really with how the politics within Inaria worked. Of course he supposed he could ask Gin for permission to address anything if he wished to do so but part of being a diplomat was about waiting before responding and of course being prepared in case things didn't quite go in your favor so..for now that was what he would do. He would wait and listen to how the girl answered first before he decided on whether or not to attempt to gain permission to speak to her himself.

Dali Wrote:(ooc: Dali ahoy. Unless any questions need to be directed at him, he's just gonna go ahead and watch so skip him if need be.)

There was bound to be discourse sooner or later.

Inaria had been in a state of euphoria since the war had ended, and things had become somewhat inactive and laid-back. Although Dali was a stranger to pack politics, he could not deny that the ranks had also grown rather inactive themselves. It was not that he minded, he was a lazy hound at heart and was more than happy to lay about in the sun all day and eat berries. But he knew that this could not go on forever. Inaria needed energy, it needed a spark.

Or perhaps a gust, which appeared in the form of this ghost child.

He arrived just as the girl finished her explanation for her summons. For her challenge. Dali's blue eyes gleamed with curiosity as he stood with both Gin and Aeolus, stick-like tail wagging socially at being surrounded by familiar faces.

"Even though I'm not the strongest by any means, I still fought for my country. I was due for the caravan to Nardir, but when I found that I had lost my way I stood my ground and did whatever I could to defend Inaria. I have the scars under my pelt to prove my claims if there are any doubts. I also volunteered to lead a group into Alteron even though we were still healing to thank them for their words of warning, to strengthen our alliance with gifts and goods, and to invite their children over to our land to teach them about our values and who we are as Inarians."

Now Dali was hardly in any position to question or lecture somebody on their work ethic, so he only watched as Gin did it for him. He had to agree with some of the red boy's points. He had never seen this girl at the recruitment. However, he had not seen this so-called Emissary either. He was too chicken to make this point and, besides, Gin was on a roll with this. If the girl responded in a way that was deemed... persuasive, then she was more than adequate for the position. In Dali's opinion, anyway.

After all, they had been taught that words were powerful things.

"I didn't see you at the Page recruitment. And as far as I know, before the recruitment, I was basically the one and only Page serving Inaria to deliver messages and knowledge to our allies. In other words... I have never seen you before. I don't even know your name. Why should I be offering my loyalties to you? Why should I follow someone who steps up to take a leadership position after a single group mission to an allied pack -- and prior to that, has only been a whisper in the wind, never seen and only sometimes heard?"

Dali only glanced between the two wolves, waiting for the challenger's answer. His smile only gave away one emotion: anticipation.

This was going to be good.

Haven Wrote:The blooms of summer had floated down to the soil and the water, rustling westwards in the breeze to the ocean. The autumn was mild and sunny, and the lilac petals littered every walkway after tumbling from the dying stems and branches. Beams of light broke through the gentle canopy of green and yellow. The queen herself was like solidified daylight in this ambiance. Her pelt glittered. Her wounds had mostly healed - only a long, bright red scab across her belly remained.

It had been a great while since there had been a challenge for rank in Inaria. During the war, rank hadn't meant much - the Saborans killed the unranked and the nobility alike. But now they were recovering, and that meant reorganizing. Haven had come to expect this. It had only been a matter of time.

She came to the meeting place with a reserved curiosity. Weiss had grown into herself a bit, and so had Gin. The golden wolf had heard Weiss's challenge, and Gin's rebuttal, and now approached them both calmly before sitting immediately before them both. Alright then. It's time to sort it out.

The queen only examined them both for a moment. Then, she looked to Weiss and gave a firm but gentle nod of the head, promising nothing to anyone, yet. Well, go ahead and answer him. Some challenges are with teeth, but these were diplomats, so it'd probably be best if they used their words.

Weiss Wrote:[ all of the individuals mentioned in the war have been given the all-clear from their players as the planned threads never finished! ]

Bi-colored eyes watched as they filed in one at a time. It was an acceptable turnout, several of the new announced pages making themselves known with differing degrees of suspicion and cheer, and Weiss gave the queen herself a respectful nod when she answered the summons. But more than her presence it was the crimson boy’s that preceded them all that had her on edge, his tough questions and seriousness enough to give her pause as the crowd settled into their seats. But Haven’s nod was enough to soothe the nerves stirring in her belly, and she was quick to take advantage in the lull in her anxiety the sight provided.

”Guidance and change,” she said simply in reply to what he asked where her intentions as the head of the rank. ”Blaise has been missing for months now, hide nor hair seen of him since his children were very young. Inaria’s lacked eyes and ears on the outside for a while, and it’s left us vulnerable to the teeth of those Saborans,” she nearly spits with an ugly wrinkle of that maw. It was personal what those monsters had done to both her and her home, and she began to get fired up at the thought of rivers still poisoned with bloated remnants of corpses- the feeling of her own flesh being ripped from her bones like a common meal. ”Our friendships with Alteron, Nardir, this Gemini blossom with the outreach we made after the war, yes- but what of Tortuga? Tjenu?” Brow furrowed as her posture began to straighten, her head held high as she addressed her peers and asked some questions they might find difficult not to bristle at. ”Why we hadn’t heard of these wolves from the jungle earlier so there was time to prepare our defenses, time enough to perhaps diffuse the situation before it escalated into this? They were a known threat to some of those we call friends, so why were we left in the dark? Why did all but Nardir leave us without the helping hand they promised us in wartime? It’s unacceptable.”

She took a moment to breathe, to let them digest her speech and to allow herself some time to regroup. The corner of her mouth turned down as she next looked for the words to address Ginsuisei’s more personal attacks, words she found quite frankly rash and distasteful for someone who claimed to have as much experience as he did, and she knew she had to say something even if he used the excuse of them coming from a place raw and hurting. ”It’s interesting what you say about my character for someone who claims to have never seen or heard of me before.” Because devil’s advocate was one thing, but outright insulting someone was another. ”I trained under Emissary Blaise at a young age, though I fell very ill before I was able to make the rank of Page. I was tutored from then on by Merope as I was unable to recover for a long time, but she has since passed.” Bi-colored eyes squeeze shut at the pain of the memory, a fault in that armor she had wrapped tightly around herself, and her prickly demeanor from his prodding eased with her sigh. There were no hard feelings for the red wolf, she was nowhere near perfect herself. ”But if your concerns are about the illness and the recovery process, I’d prefer to speak in private about that. It has no bearing on any of this, and I’d be happy to answer them.”

Her look softened further after a moment of introspection, the whirlwind of the last few months hard to sort through in her memory, and she finally turned her attention to the golden woman before her. ”I did not attend the Page recruitment because I was not able to, as I had been badly injured in the war and held by the Infirmary for a long while. Collette, Brace, and Luxord were able to pull me from the two-” trying to rip my limbs from their sockets my eyes from my face my tongue from my mouth ”Attacking me just before they had a chance to kill me.” She swallowed, the noise loud in her ears, but it hardly drowned out the white noise drumming through her skull at the memory of her grandfather- her best friend falling to a blow meant to finish her. ”Luxord… Luxord is unable to verify my claims as is Brace, but Collette and Xenia both can.”

She was quiet with her next words, each syllable cradled close to her chest like a bird in thin hands as she tried not to shake. ”I helped him find peace I think.” It was hard not to feel responsible for their deaths, hard not to feel like everyone she touched was cursed to leave her alone. But Weiss tried to shove down those ever present thoughts, blinking harshly in the soft light as she pulled herself together. ”But just as I helped one of our long-standing exiles find peace and family in a home that once banished him for crimes against the crown that he did not commit, initiative needs to be taken if Inaria ever hopes to be strong again. Though It needs to come from all of us, not just one person.”

”We are one of the oldest empires in this region and together we were once a force to be reckoned with.” She nodded and stood tall as she looked all of them one by one in the eye, her gaze falling on the queen once more. ”All it takes is some work from its people and we can be again.”

Gin Wrote:Words were indeed a powerful thing, and Gin was aware of that. It was one of the first lessons taught to him by Blaise, and his own mother had also made emphasis on that. Teeth and claws only got you so far in certain situations. It was why they had these ranks in the first place. And as he stood here now, that became even more apparent than ever. Even though he was focused on the female who would claim to take Blaise's title, he was still aware of others coming in and presenting themselves for this challenge. Namely the two others who were promoted to Page by yours truly. It made him smile to see Dali and Aeolus standing by him.

But what made his orange eyes widen was when the Queen herself entered the ring. When he had finished his speech, he looked to the golden ruler of Inaria and turned to her to bow in respect. "Queen Haven, milady, it is an honor!" he spoke, lowering his nose to the ground and bowing his body. Gin wasn't a groveler by any means, but he was very peculiar about portraying respect to the proper authorities. As he straightened himself, she gave them a nod as though handing permission to continue. Oh boy, Queen Haven herself was turning over the reigns to Gin on this one. No pressure!

He turned back to the challenger, orange eyes steadily gazing at the one he directed his questions towards. "Guidance and change." The first two proposals tossed to him by the challenger. Of which he still didn't know her name. "Blaise has been missing for months now, hide nor hair seen of him since his children were very young. Inaria’s lacked eyes and ears on the outside for a while, and it’s left us vulnerable to the teeth of those Saborans." Yes, we were vulnerable. As much as Gin didn't like it, it was true. "Our friendships with Alteron, Nardir, this Gemini blossom with the outreach we made after the war, yes- but what of Tortuga? Tjenu?" Hm, so she had knowledge of the alliances bonded between Inaria and other packs. This was good in Gin's eyes.

"Why we hadn’t heard of these wolves from the jungle earlier so there was time to prepare our defenses, time enough to perhaps diffuse the situation before it escalated into this? They were a known threat to some of those we call friends, so why were we left in the dark? Why did all but Nardir leave us without the helping hand they promised us in wartime? It’s unacceptable." Something to think about. Gin's gaze flickered to their Queen, who no doubt had some of these questions herself. Who else would wonder about their alliances than their own leaders? They had sworn loyalty to these packs, only to get nothing in return. It was something to maybe bring up to whomever the Emissary would be -- even if it's this gray female who boldly questioned just as Gin did.

But there was more. There were plenty of Gin's questions to answer. "It’s interesting what you say about my character for someone who claims to have never seen or heard of me before." An ear perked at those words as he returned his gaze to the challenger. "I trained under Emissary Blaise at a young age, though I fell very ill before I was able to make the rank of Page. I was tutored from then on by Merope as I was unable to recover for a long time, but she has since passed. But if your concerns are about the illness and the recovery process, I’d prefer to speak in private about that. It has no bearing on any of this, and I’d be happy to answer them." Illness would be something to overcome, but would it hinder her process now in being an Emissary? "I did not attend the Page recruitment because I was not able to, as I had been badly injured in the war and held by the Infirmary for a long while. Collette, Brace, and Luxord were able to pull me from the two- Attacking me just before they had a chance to kill me. Luxord… Luxord is unable to verify my claims as is Brace, but Collette and Xenia both can." A lot of sadness, but sadness also shared by many other Inarians. Gin and his own mother had suffered a loss as well.

"I helped him find peace I think. But just as I helped one of our long-standing exiles find peace and family in a home that once banished him for crimes against the crown that he did not commit, initiative needs to be taken if Inaria ever hopes to be strong again. Though It needs to come from all of us, not just one person. We are one of the oldest empires in this region and together we were once a force to be reckoned with. All it takes is some work from its people and we can be again."

And she finally remained silent.

There were a lot of words to digest, but Gin had listened to it all. He took in her words, chewed on them, and swallowed them as they came at him. Meant to be counter arguments, but in all honesty it was simply very grandiose words. He was also silent for a moment or two, a thoughtful gaze settling on him. The seconds ticked by for a minute, until he turned a soft gaze to his opponent. "I'm sorry for your loss," he offered suddenly, a sympathetic gaze on his face. He wasn't a monster, after all. Gin wasn't blind to the losses suffered in the war. He had lost an adopted sister, almost lost a blood sister, and nearly lost his mother. But he wasn't here to focus on that now, and he wasn't going to toss that on the table as a comparison of pain. "And I really never have met you before. Only another wolf who I can only assume is your mother, who went to the Page recruitment. Haylyn." She wasn't here now, which was interesting as well. "Can I please have a name to call you by?" Gin had given his own name a while back, so he knew she had that already.

"I don't feel it necessary to validate your claims of what transpired during the war. That would be an insult to those who fought in it, and died because of it." Gin wasn't here to prove that she was honest. That should be on her own mind and in her own efforts. "My only point here is to have reassurance that you will not falter as well in the line of duty out of unfamiliarity with the rank and it's workings." And that was really all he was here to do. One of the last things he was here to do was toss insults like pups, or to judge a book by its cover. "No one here can deny that Blaise has not been around in a very long time." As much pain as that caused him to say. He admired the older man.

But things had to be said, even if they were distasteful. It was part of the job. "And you have very good points about our allies. I'm sure the Queen herself has thought of these things as well. But pointing out things that have gone wrong in the process of this war and what led up to it does not tell me what you intend to do to fix all of this. To make this better. To ensure history does not repeat itself." Pointing out the flaws of others only distracts the spotlight from remaining on you, the leader. "As the Emissary, how do you plan on guiding us Pages so that we don't wander into unwanted territory and cause another war like the one we just had?" That was only Round 1, my friend.

Gavin Wrote:Gavin had walked in rather late, but curiosity had taken hold of the gangly boy, and when he approached- he heard... arguing? Something of the sort. He would stand nearby and listen, his ears perked and golden eyes wide. Even Queen Haven was there, so it must have been something important. He was unfamiliar with the others, besides vaguely Weiss. He remembered her from their trip to Alteron. Even then, he still knew not much of her.

”Blaise has been missing for months now, hide nor hair seen of him since his children were very young. Inaria’s lacked eyes and ears on the outside for a while, and it’s left us vulnerable to the teeth of those Saborans,”

The happy teen's demeanor suddenly shifted- and quite rapidly at that. His ears drooped and his eyes brimmed with sadness. He could feel teeth grip onto his heart and twist sickeningly, aiming to dislodge it from it's very plugs. He had thought about his missing parents, of course, and most of the time with horrible sadness- but it was now that it only sank in that... maybe his father, his mother... maybe neither of them were coming back? He could feel his throat close as he swallowed mucus, attempting to hold back any sort of tears. He assumed this had something to do with his father's important position, and with that... he stayed, and he listened, quietly.

The grey-lady and the red-man talked back and forth for awhile, laying their opinions bare. Gavin didn't know what to say, if he had anything important to say. This was something important.

"No one here can deny that Blaise has not been around in a very long time."

He swallowed hard once again, gritting his teeth and glancing to the ground for a moment. He doubted anyone was looking at him, or even knew he was there with his silent approach, but he nodded. It hurt him to not stand up and defend his father- to be able to tell them that his father was the best at what he did, and maybe, maybe he was just out and he got lost. Maybe he needed help. Maybe they... they could...

"Will... will you look for him?"

Aeolus Wrote:He had seen the golden one around during the war and had an idea of who she was but the confirmation that Gin provided was still nice to have. He wasn't quite sure what measure to take as far as addressing the fact that the queen was here as not all leaders liked to be greeted in the same form and fashion as he had already experienced once before but as soon as Gin began to slope into a formal bow, he followed suit making a mental note that full formal procedures seemed to be, or might be, Queen Haven's preferred method of things rather than more casual and informal ones. Once procedure had been taken care of, with a nod from the queen to continue he listened. He took in all that the one before them had to say but did not speak as yet even though he had heard things that he did not think were such as could be brushed off as unimportant. He listened to Gin next to see if he might address those things which he believed needed to be addressed and while he did not hear any direct address of things he did hear another that had managed to slip his notice, not that it was any great surprise since he usually forgot himself until after he had started himself but still..names were a good starting point.

When Gin seemed the have finally concluded his own speech, addressing things that had occurred to him as well he supposed it was time for him to step in. Before he began he noted another arriving late to things but as the younger individual had not spoken at present he went on. "You say that your illness has no bearing on this meeting but if your illness was so severe that it took so long to recover from then might it not at some point prevent you from being able to fulfill your duties as Emissary and if that were to occur might not Inaria find itself in the same position as now once again?". As much as she wished to keep matters private the thing was such a thing could not be kept private and was really bound to come out eventually just as his own past was sure to come to light, again, at some point and when it did..well..the border patrol had been willing to accept him even after he'd been told but..he didn't know how others would react to the knowledge of his past.

As soon as he was done, at least for now, in addressing his own concerns the late arrival spoke up and asked a question that he could not answer so he simply looked from the boy to the Queen to the one challenging for the Emmisary rank to see if either of them had an answer.

((and short reply is short..sorry! Didn't want to hold this up but haven't been feeling to great lately so muse is kinda lacking right now))

Blaise Wrote:Weiss looked so similar to her mother. So similar to that bitch Haylyn, thinking the name made him want to spit venom. The only person he hated more than her was Cappella. Cappella was the one had come to his home hoping to rip Kita's throat out. Blaise had defended her of course and Kita spoken up for herself and yet Haylyn had somehow decided Kita was in the wrong. Where one would normally have expected and apology for the brats violent and malicious behaviour at the very least, there was none, no admission of any wrong doing, the exact opposite in fact; Haylyn had kicked Kita to the curb without a moment’s thought, stripping her of her rank, ignoring her years of friendship, dedication and service. She had broken Kita’s heart in that moment and worse still had decided to make it a public humiliation just because that’s the petty and entitled kind of person Haylyn was. Kita had never been the same since. Blaise had no doubt that was part of what was killing her now and would never forgive Haylyn for it.

Now it seemed it was his turn to be dragged through the mud by that same family. A surprise retirement party, lucky him!

Blaise leaned against a trunk in the shadow of the trees, letting Weiss words and allegations wash over him even as he felt his heart clenching in his chest. Plenty were true and he could not deny them, and yet the tone rang with the same dismissive entitlement that Haylyn's had. It seemed in her opinion the blame for very war and every death in it could be squarely placed at his feet; no fault lay with her or anyone else of course, that would not have fitted half so nicely into her rhetoric and denial. She stank of the same martyred-do-gooder bile that Haylyn's always had and it made him sick. He heard Gin's voice speaking up in protest and smiled at that, Gin was asking all the right questions and phrasing them perfectly; he rebutted points politely but firmly and offered no insults even when Weiss was clearly baiting him for them. Good lad. That's exactly what Blaise had taught him and he felt a surge of pride. It was all well and good Weiss trying to brow beat them all with her more-valiant-war-hero-than-you-so-kiss-my-ass narrative but the fact she had gotten into a fight at all hinted at her unsuitability for the job and Gin knew it as well as he did.

He would have slipped away and left them all to bicker were it not for Gavin's plaintive question. His stomach dropped, oh Gavin... He had not been the father he had wished to his children, ever since Kita's health had taken a turn for the worse he had wanted to protect them from the reality of it, hide the pain it would cause them... Hide it from himself as well. Of course it wasn't possible, all he caused was different kind of pain and he knew it now... But how would he explain that their own mother might not know them even if she saw them? Still he could not ignore him, it was for him he steeled himself and stepped out from the shadows to confront his accuser.

"I trained Gin myself," Blaise said as he stepped shakily out from the darkness, pride evident in his voice, though he was unsure if he was doing his protégé a favour or a disservice by associating with him at this moment. "He is as good as I ever was at my best, better even. If you are looking for a leader, look to him." Blaise added as he leveled his gaze at the assembled group of vultures come to pick over his bones and stood tall, shoulders back and chest out, even as it pained him and his failing heart stuttered in protest. Anyone who had known him before would see the he was not what he once was, time had caught him up at last. "As I recall you never turned up to any of your lessons." He said to Weiss. "I have scars too. Too many and too old to count. They are from tooth, claw and saber," His days of service went further back than the first breath of most of those before him lest they forget it. "I have scars you can't even see from the things I have seen and done in service of this pack." There was no malice in his voice just bared and ugly disappointment directed at all of them. "But your family have a short memories don't they?" He smiled sadly, this time his eyes resting only on Weiss. "Heap the blame on me all you like but it won’t absolve you." He spat. Like mother like daughter.

"Take her if you want her." He said to the rest of them, he was too old and tired to care if they thought him rude, Haven included. What were they going to do take his rank? Ha! "I don't contest your challenge. You can have it and you are welcome to it." He looked Weiss up and down with his clouded and fading golden eyes. "Perhaps when you are old, after years of pain and service some bright young thing will show you how grateful they are by turning up and loudly assassinating your character while conveniently forgetting all the things you've done?" He suggested, one eye brow raised at her. He turned his back then, deaf to whatever insults she had lined up for him. She might even spring for him, deciding to make this a physical challenge after all but he didn't care. Would she savage a frail old man? Well, he wouldn’t put her past it, Inaria had plenty of ugliness hidden in its outwardly so perfect and noble soul. Even if she killed him what would that rob him of? Days? Weeks? Kita was fading fast and he knew when she went he would be quick to follow, he might even beat her there...

Without looking back he rested his eyes on Gavin moved towards him, placing himself protectively between him and Weiss in case she did decide to attack, and smiled fondly, but ruefully, down at him. "Come on, kiddo." He said softly, "Let's go. We aren't wanted here." They had much to talk about. He had so many painful things to explain and such a short amount of time to do it in.
