Although she was ice, Nakhti did not shiver.
As she crouched in the glistening snow, watching the starved rabbit, which was as thin as Nakhti herself, an anger flashed in her dual colored eyes. This was the third scrap of meat she had encountered today. She had not been successful in catching any semblance of food prior to this, but she was determined to catch the prey this time. With a quick, crunching sprint atop the icy snow, the small reddish-brown wolf sank her unforgiving teeth into the thin skin atop the bones of the creature, ripping it apart and sucking the flesh down her throat like she was starving. Which she was. After several minute moments of flesh-sucking and bone-crunching, Nakhti pushed the inedible remains to the side, a hungry rumble still residing in her stomach. With a quick glance to her right and then her left, Nakhti took in her surroundings. Ahead were a ring of mountains, looming like an ominous warning through the fog that clung to their bases. She would have to find a pass through them- ever since Nakhti had been abandoned by her parents, she refused to turn around and trek a step in their direction. She would find them again someday to prove herself to them, but now was not the time. Now, she plowed her way forward, in search of anything, anyone that would accept a weakling and turn them into a warrior. Notes: Kiri convinced me to go for Saboro with her shameless promoting |

Nakhti’s eyelids flickered gently closed, subdued by the still-warm food settling in her belly. The rawness of the frosty air made her want to curl up in a ball, to protect her frail figure, to fall deep in endless slumber. She’d taken to a routine of moving during the day and resting at night, but now an odd longing had crashed over her. Her nose dipped towards the blinding whiteness, and sounds of the forest were replaced with a flowing, gentle silence.
“You look like shit.” With a jerk of her head, the red she-wolf’s eyes widened, matching a pair of glowing golden eyes with the sneering, yet truthful, voice. How had this one snuck up on her like that? Chastisements screamed like disembodied voices in her head. Nodding off like that could not be an option. Acutely aware of how flimsy she looked, Nakhti flushed. Her back straightened and her gaze leveled on the brown newcomer, wielding confidence like a shield. Of course she wasn’t going to take such a simple jab like that from a stranger. ”I-“ Before she could speak a full syllable, the disdainful woman spoke again, this time with a curiosity that Nakhti has not heard previously. ”A pack? What pack?” was all she could think to respond, and it spoke more truth than she would have preferred. Her audible incredulity made her cringe. Where was everyone? Surely, if this was any sort of formidable group ahead, there would be more markings and warning signs. Or had she missed them entirely in her hungry stupor? Her name was Mond, she said. Mond? The title seemed too easygoing to fit this formidable woman, but the young wolf dismissed it. If she was letting go of her name so carelessly, who was Nakhti to feel uneasy around her? She didn’t seem to have much to hide. “Nakhti.” Her given name slipped from her mouth like a muscle relaxing it’s tension. Tags: @Historia |
