First comes the blessing of all you've
dreamed
But then comes the curses of
diamonds and rings
Only at first did it have its
appeal
But now you can't tell the false from the
real

Calypso came back to the lands she had once called home a changed person. Her long, graceful neck was decorated in a multitude of necklaces. She didn't usually wear these many but she wanted to show off and look her best. There were more treasures in the rucksack around her shoulder.

It was night by the time that the prodigal daughter returned to the place she had once called home. After all of this time, she wondered if it was how she remembered. Well, she barely remembered before her absence so it could be a castle for all she remembered. Or after so much time had passed it might not even be there.

How much could change in two springs?

There was something telling the tri-colored loner that she was going in the right direction. She didn't know where she was going but something kept her paws going. She remembered how it had been, would it be different now? She hoped and prayed that they were still in this area. But the girl knew not to get her hopes up.

Finally, the amethyst-eyed adventurer couldn't keep hoping that they were here. She had to know they were here. With that, she raised her head and let out a howl, "I'm coming home!"

Then the bloodied daughter stood there, waiting, praying that it was someone that would recognize her.

Her empire of dirt certainly wasn't as hussle bussle as the princess would have liked. Her mother's praise caused the girl to preen, and she was determined to twist the entire kingdom around her little finger.  The trouble was, at this moment, there wasn't much of a kingdom to twist.  Barbet spent more time alone than she did among adoring eyes.  It didn't suit her at all.

"I'm coming home!"

An unfamiliar voice rang over the wind, and the acid-eyed girl swung her head to the direction of the sound.  A sinister grin swept across her face, quickly masked behind the bright eyes of a curious child.  The yearling was not yet full grown, but Barb already held the confidence of a large predator.  She began moving towards the sound with a purpose, keen to see who was making all the racket.  As she rounded a dune in the desert, she caught sight of the female who had called.  A small, pretty thing.  The princess growled, but too low to be heard by the newcomer.  Instead, she put on a smile and trotted into earshot.

"And where do you call home?" She called back, the picture of polite inquiry.

Calypso did not know what to expect when her call was answered. This was not a familiar face but something about this girl seemed familiar. The wolf that greeted her had an air about her, something that the traveler couldn't describe. The tri-colored female mirrored the smile even though her tail was held low as a sign of respect but it wasn't tucked between her legs. A careful assessment told her that despite the girl's size, she was still a young one. Part of her wanted to ask, "Can I speak to an adult," but she decided against it.

"I used to call this place home," the bloodied daughter said, "My bloodline also hails from these lands." She didn't know her parents personally, she just remembered the things that Incubus told them before he left and what others told her about her father. "My mother is Fade and my father is Reicher; I'm the granddaughter of Bloodspill and Blade."

The amethyst-eyed adventurer wasn't one to name-drop but she wanted to know what had become of her old home. Perhaps she could glean some information from this girl. "My name is Calypso," she said, hoping to get information in return or at least an idea of what the pack was like. "My siblings are Incubus, Riley, Artemis, Catastrophe, Angel, and Zack. Are they still here?"

The prodigal daughter had been gone for so long, having left when she could survive on her own. It was a dumb mistake but she never had any parents to keep her there. All she had were her siblings but some of them left before her but even before, they were never really that close. Young Calypso took that as a sign that she too would leave when she was able to.

       Did she regret it? No.

Did she want to return and see her family and her home? Yes.

"I used to call this place home, My bloodline also hails from these lands. My mother is Fade and my father is Reicher; I'm the granddaughter of Bloodspill and Blade. My siblings are Incubus, Riley, Artemis, Catastrophe, Angel, and Zack. Are they still here?"

Well, well, well.  Not a stranger, but a relative.  And, as luck would have it, it was Barbet who got to welcome her home.  She would be able to glean a first impression, and see whether or not this Calypso was friend or foe.  The beast inside the girl cracked a wicked grin, but her outward expression was one of utter delight.  Doing her best imitation of her mother's "happy dance", she went along with the friendly approach the other girl had started.

"Well met, cousin!" She exclaimed with a wag of her black tail. "I am Barbet, daughter of Smalltalk and Northwind, granddaughter of Swiftkill and Rhinjin." Princess, no- crown princess of the Outlands Tribe.  But she left that unsaid.  "My siblings are Chukar, Tit, Chickadee, Croak, and Screech."

She'd never heard of any of those names, apart from the general gist of the family.  And honestly, with a family the size of hers, who really kept track of their... second? cousins?  Hell, her pre-teen brain wasn't having an easy time with it as it was. What she was sure of, was that any family relation was for sure going to be sticking around.  She needed to make Calypso her ally before any of her enemies (aka her siblings) got to her.

"That's a lot of siblings." She remarked, taking advantage of her youth.  Something about the short attention spans of children made adults forgive abrupt conversation derailment.

"Did they tease you?" Barb asked in a slightly sad voice, she dropped her tail and flopped her ears a bit in puppy woe. "Mine call me fat..."

It was no less than the truth.  Tit's favorite jab was at her weight.  The tit.  Barb was determined not to let anything hurt her, though.  She'd turn it back in her sister's face.  But first, she had to get in tight with her new cousin.  Her acid green eyes were moist, glazed with the real, hateful tears she wasn't quite the master of hiding yet.  But today, they liquefied her piercing gaze into an appealing gleam akin to sugar candy.  Sweet as poison, this one.  And Calypso, as of yet, none the wiser.

Calypso noticed the change in the girl as she mentioned her bloodline. She mirrored the girl's smile as she tried to figure out this girl. She had done a lot of traveling and had some success as a merchant and doing odd jobs. She learned a lot from her life and from traveling from place to place. She had an excellent poker face and a knack for figuring people out. That's what made her so successful.

The bloodied daughter couldn't say that she knew the names that the girl spoke of put she nodded and her smile grew wider. It's nice to meet you, Barbet. I'm happy to see that our bloodline is still with the Outlands. She could of obfuscated something else with the knowledge that the girl said, perhaps something more about family, but she didn't want to get caught in a lie. So she went with something neutral.

Barbet showed her youth with her next question. 'At least you had siblings that stuck around,' the prodigal daughter thought bitterly as she remembered her own broken family. But she had an excellent poker face of thought and kept it up with her response. No, they didn't, she responded. That wasn't very nice of them to call you that, she said. You seem like you'll grow big and strong.

How has the Outlands changed since I left?
