The sound of a lapping edge of a calming river was in tune with the lazy, weakened heartbeat of Apolena. She was leaning out of the water, body shielding a lower depth of the crystal-clear water. Apolena's claws dug into the stone beach, the small stones lodging into her pawpads as she gripped upwards and away from the tangled mess of flotsam, floating interwoven branches, which overcast a pattern of shadows over her body.

Apolena struggled to push the bulk of it over her side, pinned in a sense.

But that was inexcusable, Apolena couldn't die this way, never the one to appear defeated or weak. They would have to dig their way through the bank and this is when she felt blessed having six toes on each foot, scratching away underneath her and banking the debris under the branches and trunk she could scramble away flawlessly... Hopefully.

The chill of the mountainous region, Reese found himself in, bit through his thin summer coat. He never maintained a good amount of fat on him so he was typically cold in the winter time, and had an even harder time keeping warm in the mountains during summer. Blasted family had to be around here somewhere, always surrounded by mountains somehow despite moving nigh constantly from packlands to packlands.

He was keeping himself warm by running through the region looking for the Nardirian Border. Last he'd known they had moved on from the Marshes quite sometime ago and made camp around here somewhere. Little did he know that they had been gassed out of the territory he was trying to find now and on their way to their original home.

Running at an easy pace the scenery barely changed. Bush, rock, bush, rock, stream, rock, bush, rock. He smelled the large river from a ways off so at least he wouldn't go toppling into it when he finally came upon the river carving its way through the Fringe Mountains and into the Straights. Eh, good time for a drink anyhow. He thought as he made his way down the rocky slope to the calm bank.

He had a good three laps of water in him when his dark red ears pricked up at the sound of the gravel being clawed at by a newcomer. Her plain camouflaged pelt gave her away as an outsider to the Straights, much like his fathers solid brown. He watched her cling to the bank and detach herself from the flotsam he swore he just watched float past him empty of an occupant. A splay of six toes piqued his interest as she scrambled ashore. He was quite a bit taller than her, not surprising since he was a dire, but she had a good amount of muscle on her. He stood silently watching her, neither offering help or skittering away from her. Just cautious observation. She seemed capable of taking care of her self.

He wondered what she had heard of Dires from these lands. He wasn't the typical display of dire though with human accoutrements of tattoos, feathers, and a crystal around his neck, nor was his pelt really one of the strangest in these lands either. She should have seen his teal half-siblings, or even his own mother if she was going to be shocked at his strange grey and red freckled pelt.
