DISCORD

Who We Are
El Dorado is a pack settled in the remnants of an ancient tribe, the Syn Cardrys. It blends the lessons learnt of its godling king and the rituals and extravagance of its indigenous. They are an empire focused more on imagery and the perception of self and of others rather than of a focus of good or evil. Such lines are so easily blurred when the focus is on the tribe being built by its members, as opposed to the tribe shaping the members.

They cling to the idea of social statuses brilliantly displayed visually, and do not shy from opulence or excess. Tattoos, scars, accessories and mutations are praised and loved, each used in their own ways to portray certain honors, distinguished lineage, or even disgrace. First impressions mean everything in El Dorado, and so its people believe in the flashy and the gaudy and the ostentatious.

      All species are accepted.
      This empire is Semi-Consent.

OOC Terms

The Golden Rule. Be courteous, kind, and patient with all players, including the leaders. We're all real people with real lives, and roleplay is just a game. Remember to enjoy yourselves and have fun.

OOC =/= IC. To not mesh your OOC experiences with IC play. This means no tampering with character or plot developing to favor players you like or hinder those you don't. This also means no meta-gaming - if your character did not experience an event or situation, they should have no knowledge of it.

Ranks are earned. Begging, whining, or otherwise harassing any alphas or rank leads for promotions is not appreciated. Inquiring about opportunities to earn a rank are perfectly fine.

Keep alphas up-to-date on anything holding you back from any activity requirements in the pack. I'm very aware of IRL stresses and events, and always encourage you to prioritize them over sparklewolves. I only ask for the courtesy of keeping me in the loop.

Notify leaders of any major events involving our pack, including but not limited to litters, skirmishes, or major plots. We just want to be aware of what's happening and be able to work with it. Failure to do so may result in interventions or IC consequences.

Roleplay post length does not have specific minimum requirements in El Dorado, but we expect you to be respectful to all participants in keeping substantive posts. Anything shorter than a paragraph or otherwise drastically lacking might result in us asking for more or for practice.

This list is subject to updates. Please inquire if you have questions!

IC Terms

El Dorado is Semi-Consent. As a general standard, all roleplays are consent unless otherwise specified. Consent will be forfeited in any scenario where IC rules are broken or consequences are otherwise appropriate. The purpose of Semi-Consent is to protect the players' state of mind for a free and open roleplay environment without hindering El Dorado's strict IC culture. No Consent scenarios include but are not limited to invasions, violence against the Zephyrs, and treason unless otherwise specified.
Consent only means your character cannot be permanently maimed or killed without your permission. It does not absolve them of other instances such as roughing, biting, mild-moderate scarring, tackling, etc.

Rules for Challenging for the tribe's territory requires you to fight the Phoenix and Inferno. Specific terms must be discussed OOCly prior to the challenge, though if you lose you are subject to enslavement, due to the tribe's secretive nature.

Rank Challenges are permitted but have rules and standards. Challenging for ranks in the Council and Rocs require approval from the Zephyrs, or risk being denied. The Phoenix can step in ICly as they wish. Challenges last for three OOC weeks or until one side forfeits, with the winner getting a one month grace period. Challenging for a Zephyr position requires you to fight any who support that member's tenure. Killing your opponent is highly frowned upon unless they give you no choice.

Activity Expectations. In order to maintain rank, the posting requirements per month are as follows for the Zephyr (4+), the Council or Rocs (3+), the Winds or Flock (2+), and the Nest (1+). This is subject to change, as we do keep in mind the current pace of the forum.

Having offspring requires the approval of the Zephyrs at all times. Failure to obtain permission will lead to consequences for parents, and possibly the kids as well. All Youth are expected to undergo the Trial in order to properly take their place among the tribe.

Respect Authority should come naturally, and though we respect the fact this may be out of character, failure to show respect may bring consequences.

Violence is frowned upon, seeing as this tribe holds itself as civilized. Any unwarranted assaults between members may be brought to the Council or Zephyrs for judgement and consequences.

Trespassing is a critical crime, and all those caught doing so risk detainment or enslavement, violently if necessary.

The Trials

Those undergoing the rights of passage must seek out the Spirits of the ruins within the depths of Xiuhcoatl's Keep. The air inside is naturally drugged, though only a select few know this. Those undergoing the trials hallucinate, often being faced with their biggest struggles or fears or concerns. The Spirit can make them face them, challenge them, have a heart-to-heart, or something else - each experience is unique to the individual.
They later return and speak their experiences to a Judge, who interprets the meanings behind it. They go on believing their experiences to be true - no one can know otherwise. The hallucinations are believed to be real, to be genuine experiences, to be true terrors and wonders lurking deep within the confines of the terrain.

Those who do know face defamation and death if they are even suspected of revealing the sham behind the experience.

The Guild
the marketplace

As a part of the social status system, members earn animal companions as they rise through the ranks. Exclusive animal companions may be rewarded for special events or for exceptional measures. If promoted, you may accumulate your companions instead of relinquishing old ones. If demoted, you must relinquish any animal companions that no longer suit your status. Animal companions may be traded, bought, or sold, save for acquiring one above your status tier.

With alpha permission, you may gift companions, or even buy/trade one that is above your status tier. Members who have companions pass away are encouraged to wear their remains in some fashion. Animal Husbandry is a critical component of El Dorado culture and trade, and therefore those in charge of breeding and handling these companions are regarded with the utmost respect.

   The Nest:
         no companions
   The Flock:
small rodents (rats, mice, ferrets, weasels, rabbits, etc)
   The Winds:
serpents (sans venomous or large constrictors)
   The Rocs:
small reptiles (lizards, geckos, chameleons, turtles, iguanas, etc)
   The Roost:
small mammals (armadillos, small monkeys, otters, bats, etc)

   Other:
         Distinguished members have songbirds/small birds.
         Rank leads get corvids.
Nobility may have birds of paradise.
         Royalty may have parrots.

THE GUILD

The Guild is the sub-group within the tribe who breeds and sells these companions to the public. They are managed by The Crest so as to maintain the supply and demand as necessary, and may often be tasked with special events or requests for a designated reward. These statuses are separate from ranks, and can be filled by anyone who is not in The Nest.

THE CREST: The head of the guild, in charge of production, demand, and restrictions. Almost always the Phoenix, unless the role is explicitly passed down to someone else.

PRIMARIES: The breeders of the animal companions. They often specialize in different categories, most often first-come first-serve, but this isn’t technically enforced. Does not directly deal with buyers or traders, simply meets the demands of the Secondaries.

SECONDARIES: The actual merchants of the companions to the public. They host stands within the pyramid for sales, and are strictly responsible for ensuring members are obtaining companions appropriate for their tier of status. Shares the profits with their Primaries.

Primaries and Secondaries may form alliances or exclusive partnerships between each other, if they desire, but this must be approved (OOCly or ICly) by the Crest, so as not to disrupt business.

The Honors System

This is Syn Cardrys’ way of distinguishing members for their contributions and influence in the social realms of the tribe, and is completely separate from the actual ranking system. By displaying a different assortment of tattooed scars, you show a certain amount of status earned. Members who have scars unrelated to the Honors System, that are in locations of Status Scars, are expected to cover them with mud or some sort of debris. Otherwise it is viewed as a sort of ultimate disrespect and insolence. Those who disgrace themselves are required to cover their rebuked scars in this manner, as well.
When it comes to the color of the tattoos inked into these scars, it is up to the member's preference. It may only be one, singular color.

Kukulkan will have beautiful and unique trinkets and jewelry made for those who particularly impress him, as a further sign of his approval and the member’s accomplishments. More often than not they will bear some sort of the tribe's sigil - a bird of paradise on fire - or phoenix feathers.

LOCATIONS & THEIR MEANINGS:

+ Missing Tail: ultimate dishonor, can no longer communicate in basic wolf body language
+ Missing Ears: dishonor, disobedience, usually having to do with ignoring orders.
+ Torn Tongue: dishonor, insubordination, typical with those who impugn authority. (tongue not missing, just torn/damaged)

+ "X" on top of muzzle: Honor. Typical for those who are gifted with public speaking, wit, or advising.
+ Two dash marks above an eye: Honor. Given to those who are most keen, observant, and shown time and time again they are wise. Double honor for both eyes.
+ Horizontal slashes against the forelegs: Honor. Given to those who are swift, agile, and reliable. More slashes are added to emphasize more respect.
+ Upside down "V" shapes on front chest: Honor. Given to those gifted with the heart, patience, and a stronger moral compass. Multiples may be added as needed.
+ Slashes reaching from spine down ribcage: Honor. Given to those with physical strength, bravery, who refuse to stand down in the face of a trial. Multiples may be added as needed.
+ "V" shape on crown/in-between eyes: Ultimate Honor. Reserved for leaders, as a sign of the convergence of their heart and mind - making them the ultimate guides.

THE HONOREES:

+ Moxie: Slash down ribcage - red.
+ Aine: Slash against forelegs - dark blue.
      + Itai: --
      + Kaxlan: --

Joining is available most of the year, but be prepared for potential bias against outsiders from our Larks. All outsiders are met by the Cliffside.
Leaving is not tolerated ICly, and if you wish to do so you must consult with me (Akante) OOCly about it first so we can talk it over to see what's possible, thanks!
