Rank Meanings

The Head is seen as the leader of the nomads. They are very well-respected and are someone from which anyone in the pack can seek guidance, be it personal or pack matters. Conventional ideas of power or worship are not associated with the position, and it is a seat that is passed down instead of fought over. This individual’s opinion is highly regarded by the exiles, and they often serve as the tie-breaker for stalemates in council gatherings. They maintain important relationships with the man village and other packs, and are expected to take care of the pack above all else. They probably hold the crown for knocking back the most beer steins.

The Council consists of representatives from each family and branch family. These individuals come together to plan our collective journey as Kaer. As an example, some of their duties would include deciding what destinations the pack should travel to and arranging ceremonies when appropriate. They are not necessarily the oldest members of each family, but are individuals whose opinions are valued. Members of the Council are encouraged and expected to rotate (with frequency up to the family) and to mentor interested wolves.

Residents are individuals who have declared the pack to be their home. There is no separation into ranks as each member is equal and expected to provide what they can to the table to ensure our survival. The system is a balanced one as we all lean on each other. As an example, a surplus in one area such as boar hunting has free movement for individuals to take up scouting or gathering instead. Needs will dictate the skills learned without pigeonholing an individual like a rank would. But that's not to say each wolf doesn't have specializations that they are known throughout the pack for, in fact it is quite common!

Visitors to the pack are those just passing through. Whether they be family members with obligations to other lands or new faces, these visitors join our caravan for only a short while. New members are also categorized under this name until they have made up their mind on whether or not they wish to join the convoy.

The Ancestors is the name for the group of wolves who came before us, and they are very much respected and celebrated. With so much rich history in the lands, it is not surprising how thin the barrier between the lands of the living and the remembered can be. Some ancestors more likely to be spotted around certain areas, while others are more fickle and appear when they chose. To the wolves of Kaer, it is not unusual to see these familiar faces. Listed are those individuals who have been known to walk amongst us.
