Let me teach you how to dance [Double Acceptance!] - `Saros` - August 02, 2018

Let me lead you to the floor
Simply place your hand in mine
And then think of nothing more
Let the music cast its spell
Give the atmosphere a chance

Augur
Paws still crusted with mud from the forest tracked across the sand. The fine grit made quick work of the dirt, wearing it away just before cold water splashed Augur's claws clean.  He relished in the sensation. He'd never come upon moving water before, but he'd been smelling the salt for days before he reached it. Letting his paws sink down, he noted the smoke pluming gently upward from a distant island. The acrid smell was carried to the shore by a constant, buffeting wind, on which he also caught the scent of pack life. Maybe, he thought, I'll see what kind of creatures choose to live on such an isolated place.

A gull's raucous laugh shocked him out of his thoughts. Realizing he was half soaked in saltwater, he leapt after the offending bird and tore down the shoreline after it, toward a distant jetty that seemed to bridge the gap between main and island.

Saros
She’d had her fun she had to admit, but she always told herself she was going back. Even when her paws carried her further and further away, and she could hear the voices of authority chiding her as if they were actually real, she would explain to herself that she just wanted to see a little more of the world.. and a little more... until at last she finally turned her nose towards home and decided to seek out Tortuga again, where ever they’d landed.

It wasn’t all that hard. She would probably be taking some shit for not coming sooner, but maybe she could lie and say she couldnt find her way home... She was enjoying her last moments of solitude before calling to her pack when a stranger came tearing into view.

A pirate grin flooded her face and she wagged her tail invitingly.

”Well hello,”

Augur
His line of sight directed far into the sky where his quarry disappeared, Augur failed to see the golden wolf until she spoke. His head snapped back to the beach and automatically he lowered himself a few inches closer to the sand. The creature before him emanated confidence; something he'd had no need for, and so he postured himself slightly before her.

"Hello," his voice was naturally raspy, fluttering off brokenly in the wind. He opened his mouth to say more, but he got a sense that in this situation, he wasn't going to be the one doing the talking. He resigned to staring at her, white pennant tail twitching eagerly.

Saros
She looked him over and thought 'yes.. he'll do nicely.' She needed some leverage if she wanted to enter Tortuga with any respect. But she didn't believe in working hard when she didn't have to, so she turned on the charm (lets be real, she never really turns it off.)

"Nice to meet you stranger.  Saros." She bowed her head politely when she said her name.

"I gather you ain't from around here?" Good. The less he knew about Tortuga the better, if she had to lie. But maybe this would be easy...

Augur
The tone of politeness in her voice seeped into Augur's tense muscles; he wouldn't have to work to please her. In fact, maybe she could tell him about the wolves he smelled off the coast. He relaxed and resumed a casual posture. "Good to meet you. No, I'm new to this place. Are you from the land in the middle of the sea?" He had more questions, but he decided to take one thing at a time. He held himself back, resuming his twitch.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of the gulls bobbing on the updrafts from the sea. The way they dove and rose gave him an uneasy feeling - something was hanging in the balance here; some kind of change. As the birds were carried by the air, he felt himself being carried in a direction he couldn't yet see.

He looked back to the golden wolf and re-planted his paws in the sand.

Saros
"Yes I am in fact, are you looking for a home?" She'd been standing still far too long, she started to circle around him slowly, gaging his attitude, his alertness, all while feigning harmlessness. This was just play, flirting perhaps? She'd let him guess, but her posture was still friendly and her smiles came easy.

"What's  your name Sir? I can introduce you to my family, if that is what you wish."

Her circle would end when she was on the opposite side of him, hoping to shepherd him willingly to the land bridge that connected the beach to Tortuga. Some wolves were more suggestable then others, slight body cues triggered their compliance with out them even realizing what was happening.

She hoped that he felt safe.

Augur
A home. Was he looking for a home? He hadn't ever felt part of something, at least not a truly established part. The idea danced across his mind as his acquaintance began to saunter around him. It was an innocent dance, he thought, as he watched her gait flow with the same ease as the gulls coasting above. Is she what will be carrying him? Is the mysterious direction taking him home?

His thoughts dazed him, but soon enough he shook softly and came back to the present moment. She was looking at him invitingly. "Oh. Augur." he inclined his head, following her example. As for her family, he didn't know if that's what he was looking for. And yet, it wasn't his nature to be too discerning. He'd go where he was carried. "I'd be happy to meet whoever you want to introduce me to." With this he plucked his paws from their depressions and made it clear he was ready to walk.

Saros
"Augur. I like it." I like you, I think I'll keep you a while.~

He responded beautifully to her dance, melting into the steps as if they'd rehearsed it. "Lovely! You'll like it here." Eventually. Probably. Saros wasn't really listening to herself, she was already feeling the draw back to home, even though she'd never set paw on this particular island before.

Her pace switched to a trot and her spirit soared with the wind, it felt good to have ocean breeze in her long wavy fur again, it felt good to feel the sand beneath her give way to her paws. And now she returned home with a prize, Tortuga would welcome her with open arms. And  Augur? He'd find a place, he would be grateful to have a home.

She didn't look over her shoulder until she reached the land bridge, she was sure that he would follow her lead with out any further suggestion on her part. And if not~ this was Tortuga, they were on the doorstep. He wouldn't get far. Saros cared less about him the closer she got to home. When she stopped moving he existed again, her tail wagged gently and she smiled her most dazzling smile, partly for the game and partly because she was genuinely happy to be here at last.

"Well, I'll let them know we're coming." I'll just pretend like this isn't my home coming and that I've actually been here before. She howled, confident, unafraid, like she belonged here.

"They'll come to meet us, don't worry, they're going to like you Augur." And she would begin to walk in, collected, even though her heart was bursting to be near the sea again.

She didn't think about what any of this would mean for Augur, it wasn't that she didn't want to feel the guilt; she wasn't that deep. Like many Tortugan's she believed anyone would be honored to be serving the Greatest Pack in the World. If he couldn't see the gift she was giving him that was his problem, he'd better learn to work it out.

ooc  please wait for Augur to join!

RE: Let me teach you how to dance [Double Acceptance!] - Augur - August 04, 2018

Augur's footsteps quickened as he approached the land bridge. Something about the blustering force of the wind here, and maybe just the excitement of a new adventure, made his gait like a bubbling dance. He felt light bouncing along next to Saros; he rested his gaze on her gleaming coat, noting its beauty. All his thoughts were tinted positive by the brisk day and his building excitement. Soon enough, his paws stopped sinking into sand and hit the hard, black rock of the bridge. With every step, the grit between his paws shook free. He much preferred this sandy, rocky environment to the marshes he was used to slogging through. Everything about this place felt new and inviting. Spray from the ocean blasted his coat and he laughed openly.

A howl pierced through the winds, shocking Augur out of his blissful trance. He eyed Saros again, knowing that they would soon meet her family. A pang shot through him as he thought of his own, now long lost. He wouldn't dwell, though. Too much happening now to be thinking of the past.

He smiled back at Saros and her encouraging words. "I don't doubt you." Stopping at her side, he again planted his paws firmly on the ground against the wind. He heard the shriek of a nearby gull; it filled him with a contrary feeling. Something was off there. He tried not to let it mar his good mood. There was something real to focus on and look forward to now - he was going to have a home. No reason to doubt that.

RE: Let me teach you how to dance [Double Acceptance!] - Desdemona - August 06, 2018

DESDEMONA

When away from the sandy beaches, the darkling Captain could be found patrolling the length of the Crossbones Path. Perhaps once upon a time in a faraway jungle, she could have found her calling as a sentry. Perhaps she could have even been content — you'll never know now, will you, Desdemona? Such things were not to be dwelled on.

She leaves her thoughts behind as speckled paws take her along the winding path. The former princess walks with purpose in her step — with a grace and regality that is an echo of Saboran rather than Tortugan. She can't quite shake it off, can't quite adopt the blithe swagger that many of the pirate people seem to carry in their stride, nor will she try.  But at the very least she had left the suspicious prowl far behind — she is not her father, though echoes of Coven and Sol Katti remain.

The howl that rings through the air is doused in undeniable confidence — and what sort of Captain would she be to not answer it? Desdemona moves toward its source with that gait of royal poise, head tilted with interest as the duo come into view. Sharp gaze shifts from the innocent face of the brown boy to the golden girl. A pair was unlikely to be an envoy from another pack. Perhaps old members coming home?

Or simply a foolish, cocksure recruit.

Or a challenge, some quiet part of her mind whispered, its voice dripping with venom. She squashes it, banishes it from the forefront of her mind.

And so, the darkling Captain does not voice her inquiries and instead simply approaches, slowing to a half a few feet away from the pair. Her narrowed, assessing gaze sweeps over them before settling upon the pale blue of the golden female. Desdemona said nothing, but the demand was clear upon her face — talk.

RE: Let me teach you how to dance [Double Acceptance!] - Tolf - September 21, 2018

(Will prettify this post later
... also Saros suddenly got a mild accent justrollwithit I think of her as a very lady-like pirate but her scalawag shows through here n there)

Nothing could bring down her good mood. Until it did. She wasn’t expecting to see someone one foreign. Although Tortuga housed all kinds of creatures from all over the map, Saros saw something distinct and different---And threatening, albeit mildly; about the wolf coming toward them. She could recognize the aura of authority radiating from the Tortuga-who-did-not-seem-Tortugan and her confidence faltered. Perhaps it was a bit headstrong to waltz over the boundary line without invitation.

She didn’t let her hesitation show. When she locks eyes with the strange dark one she gives her most charming smile. ”Saros, daughter of Tesora, daughter of Rita. Not that name-droppin’ can get me anywhere.” She laughed, her voice remained light and friendly. She didn't see any reason why she couldn’t charm the pants off this stranger the same as any if she did it carefully. ”Just thought ye’d like to know, can’t pick me out of a crowd as I don’t look like the rest of ‘em. I was born n’ raised in Tortuga, it was awful trackin’ ye down after all the chaos.”

She motioned her head toward her guest with out breaking eye contact with Desdemona. ”Didn’t know if Tortuga was short of slaves at the moment but I brought him just the same, this is Augur. He’s a nice lad.”

She took a deep breath and looked past Desdemona to the island. "It's good to smell the ocean again." She wanted to ask how the pack was fairing and how her unusually large family was handling it all, but those were questions for after she'd been admitted. She'd find out soon enough.
