calm after the storm [sappara] - Greyblues - November 05, 2017 #0093af
song 1 + song 2 Leviathan first hid in the deep where her children sleep She kept them hidden from the plague Sometimes people need you, though. Even when they don't admit it. The light patter of rain filled the quiet of the highlands, a cold had washed over it and somewhere children were tucked in quietly next to their father. Their muffled whines silenced by a kiss to each of their heads. A shaggy furred boy sat in an open field, a grimace upon his tired face, soaked to the bone and yet he still didn't move. A boy with one lone golden eye and fur as white as snow watched over the bluffs at the ocean below and prayed for rain to wash everything away. Within the deep the Leviathan stirred, breathing out deep sea bubbles and humming whale songs. Her children close to her side. And once upon a time there was a family that lived within a cruel jungle, and that cruel jungle broke them apart. Children were left teary eyed and defenseless, their mother had died. She lay unmoving, surrounded by the roots of the giant tree, rain water trickling in to splash gently upon her nose and yet she still lay there motionless, but with eyes open and glazed over. Few were ever permitted within her room, her prison, and those that were left as quickly as they entered. An icy fire burning with the blue woman's chest, this would be her final chapter. Sappara would die among these roots, away from the eyes of this pack... of her own children. Alone, in the cold dark. The sound of far off waves rang in her ears, a soothing sound that lulled her into what felt like a trance-like sleep. It had always been her one escape. A warm breeze and a sudden burst of light, eyes would flutter open to be greeted by a hazy sunny field, crickets chirped in the tall grass and birds sang their little songs. There it was again the sound of waves, but the field was so vast that and it seemed like the sound was coming from every direction. The blue female blinked, ears perking up as she saw that she wasn't alone in this open expanse. A large figure sat among the tall grass, unmoving and colors dulled by the brightness of the sun, the woman took an uncertain few steps forward. Coming to rest behind the other, her mind forming the question, but her mouth ran dry. "I can't seem to find anyone today, it's been very quiet." The larger woman said, turning her head slightly so that the bare outline of her scarred brow could be seen. "Sappara, dear, can you hear it? The ocean?" She lay there patiently, her body still; counting every breath that she exhaled. There was a surprising calm aura that surrounded the broken woman, a peaceful rhythm of raindrops pattering against the roots of the gargantuan tree that surrounded her. There was a chill in the air but she paid no mind to it; her body felt numb and lifeless. Serrate and Kol Nidre had left some time ago, she wasn't exactly sure how long. Time had little meaning here. Time would never mean much to her again. She counted her breaths, because she waited for the final one that the poison would allow her.
There was something strange to how she looked forward to it. Her eyelids began to droop (somewhere, someone was humming a song), the woman heaving out a heavy sigh (it sounded so inviting, so familiar). She could remember succumbing to darkness before, but this time she wasn't scared (it was simple, but beautiful). There were many things she had to come to terms with; her family (there's a comforting warmth to the song), her crimes (like it was telling her that everything would be okay), but there was nothing she could do about it now. With one final sigh, she fell. (Ah, Greyblues used to sing. Then her song was unjustly silenced. Sappara used to sing. But now her song has reached it's end as well.) The field was vibrant, the wind was crisp and fresh. Birds sang to the heavens and petals were carried in the breeze. Sappara felt at peace, her body light as she carried herself through. There was no pain in her heart, no aching in the scars on her chest. She knew where she was going, knew who she was going to see. "I can't seem to find anyone today, it's been very quiet." Sappara settled down beside the older woman, and despite how she believed she was ready for this, she found herself at a loss for words. It had been so long, so many years, but here she was. Reunited, returned, a mother and daughter who had always tried their very best. (Family, they always wanted the best for their family). "Sappara, dear, can you hear it? The ocean?" "Yes, Mother." She responded, and her mind became overwhelmed with questions to ask. Was it okay to finally leave everything behind? Was it okay to be at peace with her choice? Did it ever get any easier to process her mistakes? Did she do a good job? Was her Mother disappointed with her? Did she still love her, despite all the horrible things she had done in her life? Sappara felt uncertain, almost scared, but when she looked at Greyblues once again, there was only one thing she could say: "I missed you." But now they were together, at last. (Now her children were singing their songs. And when their harmonies would reach their finish, she would be waiting for them here). Somewhere the tide is lapping along the shore, white caps crashing into sand and seaweed is washing up on a lonely beach. And here there are sounds, all these sounds, familiar and strange. Where is the sound of the ocean coming from? A lazy bee drifts by and a mourning dove calls out. Golden eyes drifted upon the form of the blue daughter, her face tired, but she was just as Sappara had remembered her, shifting slightly to nudge her shoulder against Sappara's own. I missed you. Grey chuckled, and shook her head. "But I didn't go anywhere." Her usually rough voice softer now. The large woman would look back out to the field, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath as the sun brightened for a moment and dulled back down. "I've been here the entire time. It's funny, I can't seem to find your brothers. They're always off getting into trouble. Arbalest and Cestus, they have their own plans and minds. Coven is so much shier though. Another chuckle and she'd exhale, a breeze picking up to cause the flowers and tall grass to dance. Ebb and flow, there it was again, the noise of water. "I always wanted to show you the ocean." The sky above them trapped in an endless dance of pulling and receding, sparkling like water, it held galaxies and planets suspended within. It was from up above that the sound of waves crashing against a shore came. "It's beautiful, easy to get lost in. You just forget." The moon is dead but she still pulls on me. It was like a droning constant white noise. "And then you've no way of knowing the danger you're in." Words spoken without even looking to the blue form of the younger woman. "Luckily," a pause as she looked to Sappara warmly, "You'll always have someone to pull you back to shore." |
