// liquid timing this to before the earthquake because i'm a god and i do what i want
That day at the border had been SOMETHING. Puffin stared at the harness in his paws, sort of still in shock, sort of in denial. His brother? In Nardir? HERE? He shook his head. It had been years. A lot of years. He still remembered...the old village, his siblings, his parents, the humans, the tents...the wolves. A lifetime ago he'd made some decisions. It was as though it was through another's eyes, now, that he could see his father's disapproving stare. His memory of Auklet was a youthful pup with a mischievous grin, much like his own had been. He'd barely been a year old when his father issued his exile.
And then he'd joined Cyrus' pack, spent years there. Thyme had joined him there, eventually. He'd gone home to visit, once. Things had felt different. He'd felt different. Like home wasn't home anymore, because in his leaving he'd shifted heaven and earth and set his path irrecoverably towards a small island in a wet marsh where he would pass the same judgement his father had passed on him, and fall in love with a wolf...
Funny how things turned out.
He put the harness down. Time passed and people changed, and things could never be as they were, but some things remained fixed points in time and space. Auklet was his brother. He was loud and crazy and ridiculous, but that had never put Puffin at a loss for words before. No, he knew what to say.
Butterflies in his stomach, he set out for the den sites. Auklet! Here! In Nardir! He couldn't help but smile. He couldn't help but grin. Worlds colliding in ways he hadn't thought possible, and only good could come from it. Only good. He thought fiercely of the past as he tracked his brother down, and when he finally spotted Auklet's black and white form against the green, he called out, "Hey! Auklet!" He would trot the rest of the way, tail awag, butterflies growing into sparrows, and fix his brother with a quizzical stare. "Time for us to talk, don't you think? It's been so long! Tell me everything."
